Excerpts from an article on Beanie:

Mike Tomlin warned reporters not to overanalyze the placement of young Beanie Bishop into his lineup yesterday, but it was too historic to overlook.

The last undrafted rookie to start an opener for the Steelers was Will Johnson, at fullback, back in 2012. He played eight offensive and 13 special-teams snaps. But the ol' notebook doesn't mention Johnson - out of WVU - throughout the first week of training camp.

In the first official goal-line scrimmage of the new season, Bishop - out of, yes, WVU - lined up as the slot cornerback in the Steelers' nickel.

Someone has to step up, and for the first time in at least 12 years - or maybe since Donnie Shell lined up in the slot and gained his nickname "Torpedo" by drilling Franco Harris the first day the striking players returned to practice in 1974 - an undrafted rookie joined the starting lineup.

In today's game, we make exception for the fifth DB and call him a starter. The odds favor the Steelers starting with such an alignment on opening day as well.

So, how did Bishop do yesterday?

Well, on the fourth snap of "Seven Shots," QB Justin Fields went after him, but overthrew Van Jefferson at the back left pylon as Bishop smothered him in coverage. In the only other noteworthy play yesterday, Bishop blanketed Calvin Austin on an incompletion during team scrimmage.

There was much more to this article but this is the gist. Beanie is making history. I really hope he can keep it up. The job is there for the taking.
