Baseball Announces Home Schedule Changes

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 11, 2015) - [/B]Due to the delayed opening of Monongalia County Ballpark, the West Virginia University baseball team has announced schedule changes to the first four home games.

The Mountaineers' game against Waynesburg has been cancelled. WVU will now play Akron on Tuesday, March 17 at CONSOL Energy Park in Washington, Pennsylvania. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The series against Charleston Southern from March 27-29 also has been moved to CONSOL Energy Park. First pitch on Friday is at noon, while Saturday's game begins at 7 p.m. and Sunday's finale starts at noon.

"We are excited to be able to finalize our plans for our scheduled March home games as work continues on our beautiful new ballpark. After reviewing our available options, we felt taking advantage of the opportunity presented to play at CONSOL Energy Park in Washington was our best option," said WVU Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs Matt Wells. "A special thanks goes to Steve Zavacky and Wayne Herrod from the Washington Wild Things front office for their assistance in making this opportunity happen. We look forward to playing these games and are hopeful Mountaineer fans in the surrounding area will be excited to have an opportunity to see the Mountaineers take the field."

"We are looking forward to starting the home portion of our schedule in Washington. Our team is excited about the opportunity to be able to sleep in their own beds after spending what will be six straight weekends on the road by the time the Charleston Southern series rolls around," coach Randy Mazey said. "I appreciate the effort of our administration and the Washington Wild Things front office staff to put this revised schedule together. We put a very nice bow on Hawley Field by winning the series against Texas at the end of last season and we felt for the history of that venue and our program it was best to consider other options for these early season games. We are excited to take the field Tuesday at CONSOL Energy Park."

Tickets will cost $5 at the gate and all seating will be general admission.

All previously purchased tickets, either as season tickets or single game tickets, for the affected games will be honored for admission to the games at CONSOL Energy Park. All seating for these previously purchased tickets will be general admission for the games in Washington.

In addition to having the opportunity to use their tickets for the games in Washington, WVU baseball season ticket holders and fans who purchased single game tickets for the originally scheduled games with Waynesburg and Charleston Southern can redeem their tickets at the Mountaineer Ticket Office in the WVU Coliseum or at the Monongalia County Ballpark ticket window on game days, starting April 10, for future home games.

CONSOL Energy Park is a 3,200-seat ballpark that is home to Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League.
