MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 1-ranked West Virginia University rifle team closes its fall slate this weekend with a pair of road matches.

The Mountaineers first lineup at No. 10 Memphis on Saturday, Nov. 11, with action inside the Memphis Rifle Facility in Memphis, Tennessee, set to begin at 9 a.m. EST. WVU closes the weekend at No. 3 Murray State on Sunday, Nov. 12, with the head-to-head match set for a 10 a.m. EST start at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky.

"We're looking to have two more strong team performances this weekend," Mountaineer coach Jon Hammond said. "We want to continue to build off the semester's success and to continue to learn more about the team. It will be good for us to gain match experience in two different venues, too. Ultimately, we want to learn this weekend and to continue to grow as a group."

WVU (6-0, 4-0 GARC) is 11-2 all-time against the Tigers, a Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) opponent. Memphis is led by first-year coach Dan Hermsmeier, a graduate assistant with the Mountaineers from 2014-16.

"GARC matches are always important," Hammond said. "We're especially looking forward to seeing Dan and his progression with Memphis."

Last season, WVU earned a 4713-4650 win over the Tigers on Nov. 5, at the WVU Rifle Range.

The Mountaineers are 23-3 all-time against the Racers. Led by coach Alan Lollar, Murray State finished third at the 2017 NCAA National Championships with a 4692 score.

"Murray State will be a really good match for us," Hammond added. "They're one of the better teams nationally. To have such a tough match, at the end of the fall season and on day two of a road trip, will be a great challenge for us. They will give us a really good match."

WVU closed its 2016-17 regular season with a 4726-4713 win over Murray State on Feb. 12, in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Mountaineers earned two big wins at the WVU Rifle Range last weekend, defeating then-No. 3 TCU, 4727-4717, on Nov. 4, and Army West Point, 4733-4640, on Nov. 5. Included in the team's victory over the Black Knights was a season-best 2348 smallbore score and an NCAA-record 600 air rifle score from junior Ginny Thrasher.
