WVU Release Milum is WVU’s 14th Consensus All-American

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior offensive tackle Wyatt Milum has been named a Consensus All-American, one of college football's top honors, as determined by the NCAA.

To earn Consensus All-America distinction, a player must garner a majority of the first team All-America recognition from the five All-America teams recognized by the NCAA; including the Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Football Foundation, Football Writers Association of America and The Sporting News.

Players who earn at least three first team All-America honors automatically qualify for consensus status. If the spots at the specific position aren't filled, then the players with at least two first team selections will be considered and then the second team selections will be used as the tiebreaker. In the case of a true tie, all players are listed. A player who earns five first-team spots will be named a unanimous All-American.

Milum, a native of Kenova, West Virginia, becomes the fourth WVU offensive linemen to earn Consensus All-America honors, (Dan Mozes – 2006, Mike Compton – 1992, Brian Jozwiak – 1985). Milum also is the second Mountaineer in consecutive years to earn the distinction (Beanie Bishop Jr. – 2023), third since 2020 (Darius Stills) and 14th in school history.

Milum was honored as the Big 12 Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year and was named to the all-conference first-team squad. He also is WVU's 50th All-America selection since 2002. The program now has 113 All-Americans overall.

Milum earned first-team honors on four of the five teams that make up Consensus All-America honors (Walter Camp – first team, AFCA – first team, FWAA – first team, Sporting News – first team) and was a second-team selection by the Associated Press.

Milum played in 47 games, started 43, and was used on 2,951 snaps over his four-year career. This season, he helped WVU rank No. 9 among Power 4 schools in rushing yards per game (192.7). WVU is one of two FBS schools with three players to have at least 600 rushing yards. In 2023, he helped the Mountaineer rushing attack claim the No. 1 spot among Power 4 schools, averaging 228.9 yards per game

Milum also did not allow a sack in 34 of the past 36 games in which he played, including not allowing any over the past two seasons. He was named a semifinalist for the Outland Trophy, given to the nation's best interior lineman.

In 2024, Milum did not allowed a quarterback hurry and only seven pressures. PFF College lists Milum as its No. 3 offensive tackle in the nation, grading out at 90.1. His 84.2 run-blocking grade is No. 6 and his pass-blocking grade (89.8) is No. 4. The offense ran for at least 140 yards in 27 of its last 29 games since 2022.

I’ve come full circle..

When rich was here I knew we would one day play for the national championship. After that devastating loss, I thought that was bad but he will get it done eventually. Then he left. That was soul crushing and I’ve held a grudge ever since.

This coaching search hasn’t gone at all like I hoped and it’s put a spotlight on just where WVU stands in the football world. Not enough money, a lesser conference, etc.

I’ll say this. Rich wants to be here. That’s more that can be said from all the other names brought up. We all want to win. The man knows how to coach and wants to be here. Holding a grudge hurts no one but me.

Welcome home Rich. Get it done.

WVU Release WVU Women's Basketball - West Virginia Rolls in First Game at Gulf Coast Showcase

ESTERO, Fla. (Nov. 29, 2024) – The West Virginia University women's basketball team collected its first win of the Gulf Coast Showcase with an 89-54 victory over High Point on Friday afternoon inside Hertz Arena.

The Mountaineers led from wire to wire in a game that saw the Mountaineers lead by as many as 39 points in the fourth quarter. West Virginia forced 22 High Point turnovers to break the 20-plus mark for the seventh time this season. Of those miscues, 14 were WVU steals which also marks the seventh time this season West Virginia has reached double figures in a game.

Freshman forward Jordan Thomas recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Both marks are a career-high as she is the first Mountaineer to record a double-double since Kyah Watson hit the mark in January of last season against Baylor.

Senior guard JJ Quinerly finished with 22 points to lead all scorers. She added four assists and two steals. Junior guard Jordan Harrison was the final Mountaineer in double figures with 13 points. Fifth year forward Kylee Blacksten (8) and senior guard Kyah Watson (7) crashed the glass to help the Mountaineers to a 46-22 advantage on the boards. Watson’s rebounds give her 600 for her career.

Senior guard Sydney Woodley was relentless on the defensive end, finishing with eight steals to set a new career mark.

Quinerly had the hot hand early, scoring the Mountaineers opening six points to help WVU to a 9-0 lead over the first four minutes. She finished the frame with 10 points as WVU knocked down 9 of 13 attempts from the floor on the way to a 22-7 lead. Quinerly finished with 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the floor in the first half as the Mountaineers led 40-16 after 20 minutes of play.

West Virginia tacked on 22 more points in the third before scoring a quarter-high 27 points in the fourth frame to cruise to a 35-point victory.

The win is the seventh straight to open the season, marking the second consecutive season WVU has hit the mark. It is just the seventh time since the 2000 season the Mountaineers have opened with seven straight wins.

Of note, WVU is now 3-0 all-time in the series against High Point. West Virginia is 15-2 all-time against the Big South Conference. West Virginia is a perfect 18-0 in regular-season nonconference action under head coach Mark Kellogg.
