The No. 47 West Virginia University womens tennis team swept a doubleheader against Navy and Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown. NOTE: I don't think there is 1 American on the squad ... did not know that.

West Virginia (11-1) defeated Navy, 5-2, and beat Mount St. Mary’s, 6-1. With these victories, West Virginia has its best start through 12 games since 1986 when it began the year 12-0.
This also marks the first time since the 2006 and 2007 seasons that WVU has back-to-back seasons with double-digit wins.

To begin the day, West Virginia won two of the three doubles matches against Navy to earn the doubles point. The pairing of junior Michaela Kucharova and senior Momoko Nagato won, 6-3. The doubles team of graduate student Ting-Pei Chang and junior Tatiana Lipatova won, 6-3.

In singles play, Nagato was dominant as she defeated Navy’s Stella Ribaudo, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 3 seed match. Redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik earned the second singles victory for the Mountaineers with a 6-4, 6-2, win against Navy’s Kate Lee.

Kucharova locked up the win for West Virginia as she won the No. 6 seed match against Navy’s Olivia Fermo, 6-2, 6-1.

Against Mount St. Mary’s, the Mountaineers took the doubles point after winning all three doubles matches.

Up next, West Virginia will begin Big 12 Conference play against TCU on Friday, and Baylor on Sunday, in Morgantown.
