MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 1, 2015) – West Virginia University ranks in the top 50 in both the men’s and women’s Capital One Cup winter standings.

The Mountaineer women sit at No. 28 with 13 points, while the men No. 40 with 10 points.

WVU women’s rifle placed first in the Capital One Cup standings, while women’s cross country finished eighth. The Mountaineers join three other Big 12 schools to rank in the top 50: Texas (No. 17/15), TCU (No. 12/33) and Baylor (No. 47/18).

Presently, Ohio State leads the men’s cup with 85.5 points and Stanford leads the women’s cup with 91.5 points. Schools earn points based on their teams’ top 10 finishes in NCAA Division I championships and in final official coaches’ polls across 20 women’s and 19 men’s sports as they compete to win the Capital One Cup trophy and a combined $400,000 in scholarships for student-athletes. The Capital One Cup winners will be determined at the end of the spring season and honored at the ESPYS in July.

Last year, the University of Notre Dame’s men’s athletic program and the University of Florida’s women’s athletic program took home the winning trophies. This is the fifth year of the Capital One Cup.
