Our profile programs have suffered prolonged episodes of downward trajectories during this era of Covid / Conference Realignment / Transfer Portal / NIL.
While some have hypothesized that it signals a defeating set of circumstances that will doom our school’s athletic fortunes, most believe we simply need to get the right leadership in place.
Neal Brown seems all but guaranteed a return for 2024 now with a renewed opportunity to maintain his tenure going forward. Most see Brown as a good man with a ceiling for long term accomplishment that will keep WVU out of the limelight.
WVU Hoops has been trending mediocre for years despite a very high paid HC. We reacted to Huggs resignation by putting in a stop gap measure that will make any immediate transition to a national search a little awkward, even though highly necessary.
Gee got another year at the helm, much to everyone’s chagrin, from this BOG. If 2024 is indeed his last, that search will be perhaps the most important in setting the stage for the future of WVU athletics.
And what role will our current BOG play - positively or negatively - in shaping our futures in FB and BB?
So many issues on so many level are in a state of flux. My hope is that we get these solved and procure the leadership that truly understands the importance of our national relevance to the University and state.
