Greeny Adds Two Mountaineers to 2024 Roster​

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University volleyball head coach Jen Greeny has announced the addition of two student-athletes to the squad for the 2024 season.

Joining West Virginia is Cassidy Tanton (Stoneville, North Carolina) and Eily Painter (Pottsville, Pennsylvania).

Cassidy Tanton / Outside Hitter / Stoneville, North Carolina

A Stoneville, North Carolina, native, Tanton comes to Morgantown after spending three seasons at Auburn. As a redshirt freshman, Tanton appeared in 58 sets across 19 matches highlighted by her appearance versus Marist in 2022. The outside hitter set four career highs in a win over the Red Foxes with 10 kills, a .348 hitting percentage, six digs and 12 total points. The outside hitter was apart of the Tigers 2023 run to the NCAA Tournament, where the squad fell in the first round to Western Michigan. While at Auburn, Tanton was named to the Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll and was honored to the Auburn Athletics Director Honor Roll. In high school, Tanton was named to the 2019 AVCA Phenom List and collected Under Armour Honorable Mention All-America honors in 2020. Tanton also collected multiple Mid-State 3A all tournament and all-conference honors, while being named MVP. As a sophomore, the outside hitter led the state of North Carolina in kills, surpassing the 1,100-kill mark during her junior year. The daughter of Christy and Scott Tanton is pursuing her master's in Business Administration.

Eily Painter / Libero / Pottsville, Pennsylvania

Painter is a native of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, where she attends Pottsville Area High School playing for coach Maria Sherakas. As a four-year starter and two-year varsity letter winner, she set the school record in digs. Painter was named First Team PA District XI, All-State AAA, and First Team Schuylkill League three straight years. The libero was also honored at the 2023 Schuylkill League Player of the Year. Additionally, Painter played club volleyball for coach Joe Mahan at the East Coast Power Volleyball Club and earned 10 Year First Team Club Member Honors. The daughter of Stephanie and Christopher Painter will major in animal and nutritional sciences.
