To all of the Dana Lovers

Remember Dana was hired to win in the Big 12 and we were told that he would, but one thing is wrong with your chart above and the quality in big 12 coaching was not this good when we came into the league. Matter of fact Texas and Texas Tech were average, Iowa State and Kansas were crap, Kansas State, Baylor and OSU were good but not crazy good with TCU and the sooners at the top. You do realize that with our talent and history there is 4 or 5 wins built into that sch. Ofh wait Dana had the talent to win the big East and beat Clemson but not in the Big 12. See, that was Ollie's PR machine because last yr Dana's Schalorship numbers were down like Stews but no one wanted to take about that issue.

We went into the Big 12 with a nice group of future NFL stars but some how it was still Stew's fault 5 years into the league.

According to who.

WV at best has equal talent to Oklahoma St, TCU and Baylor. Your expectations is what ruined Dana and will ruin Neal Brown.
WV will never win at their Big East level in the Big 12 until they can recruit like Oklahoma and Texas.

The mistake that was made was the 3am kneejerk hire of Gomer by Eddie Pasthisprime. Otherwise, a real search would have been made to replace Fraud and Gomer could have named any job he wanted in the AD EXCEPT head coach. Thankfully, that was one of two mistakes Ollie took care of when he took over as AD. The other was he and Huggy telling Marshall where to get off.

WVU messed up during that time by not trying to keep Rich Rod and letting him just leave so easily.
Yea
Would have been great to see how many more cheerleaders or admins he could bang

Did you stop reading because you didnt want to hear the trueth? Its guys like you that took up for Dana at every turn and got on Ollie's PR tour just to take up for 7 day a week party animal that was collecting over $3 Million a year to be our head coach. Its kinda neat to see how people want everyone to just move on without at least having the discussion on why you guys took up for Dana. so why did you guys take up for him all the time?
First, I didn't.
Second, you are choosing to bring something up 3 months after he's gone for no reason whatsoever. What is there to talk about? Your post has an incredible amount of inaccuracies in both spelling and overall content. Dana was not the best guy ever, he had a lot of issues both professionally and personally, and it was time for him to move on and we are better off for it. Being bitter and trying to make it sound as if you were right all along is absurd. If you liked him, you think he did a good job and now he's gone. If you didn't, you thought he sucked and now he's gone. See how the end result is the same? Move on...

Its always funny when someone cant debate an issue they throw out the spelling topic. Classic message board talk when your lost. You do realize that Dana and Stew won the same number games in the Big East 9?

It is personal because WVU football is personal to the state and its fans. You darn right its personal
you're

AT WVU......?.....ok...first person ever to use this formation lol....ok

At Oklahoma St...
The formation is the classic full house backfield.
Never used out of the spread.
Pretty much 12 personal with the Tight ends as H Backs or what they called Cowboy Backs at Oklahoma St.

Was used at WV when Dana first started.
As always Dana is always trying to be on the cutting edge and change things.

One of the problems of the diamond formation is the inability to use the Tight ends as deep passing threats.

Wesco in 2018 was because Dana adjusted and began to use Tight Ends/HBack in more conventional ways

Mainly because the inverted Tampa 2 that Iowa St used and that Texas copied.

I think your expectations are out of touch with reality.

Like what was said earlier..
It will be the same thing. People will blame Neal Brown because he can't do something that Oklahoma hasn't been able to do and that is win 9+ games a year for an extended period.

Why does it matter? He is at Houston now.

Oklahoma hasn't been able to do and that is win 9+ games a year for an extended period.

Barry Switzer 16 years avg. 9.8 wins a year. (back when the season was 11 games)

Bud Wilkerson 17 years avg 8.5 wins a year (this is when they only played 10 games a season)

Bob Stoops 19 yrs avg 10.5 wins a year

Talking about the Big 12...
Oklahoma has won 9+ games at the most 5 seasons in a row.
They have a 4-5 year stretch and they have a down year.

WV doesn't have the ceiling Oklahoma has right now. They could. But Oklahoma has deep recruiting ties in Texas and California.

All starts at QB...
Greene from Florida looks like a legit Big 12 QB.
Oklahoma has Rattler.
Texas probably will have #1 2021 QB Preston Stone.
If not they have Hudson Card and will get a verbal from Ja'Quinden Jackson.

Texas hasn't won shit in 10 years.

So Neal Brown will have a harder time meeting the expectations of the W Virginia fanbase.

Point is....
Neal Brown is probably a great coach.
But...none of the coaches who moved up were losing at the G5 level or FCS level.

Matt Campbell
Tom Herman
Matt Wells
Matt Rhule
Chris Klieman
Gary Patterson when TCU was in the MWC and CUSA.

No, the expectation where set by Ollie at the presser when Dana was made head coach

If I remember right, Dana was supposed to be HCIW for a year under Gomer. Then Gomer talked to the PPG and spilled dirt on Dana. Ollie had no choice but to can him.
Ok, this is where the Ollie PR machine kicks in. If you go back to the presser making Dana the head coach a reporter ask Ollie about the reports coming from the PPG(rumor has it this reporter was told to ask the question) and Ollie responded by saying that this was not true and he was not aware of the stories linked to the paper. Now, why is this such a big deal. Because Ollie needed this issue put to rest in a very public way to keep from getting sued. How did this rumor about the PPG get started? No one really knows but Ollie put that to rest.

You do realize the Big 12 has improved since Dana's first years so Neal may struggle some until he can get his kids in place. Dana left him with almost no talent on defense

Neal is on the cutting of edge of how to motivate kids. It has changed just in the last 5 years and guys like Huggs and Rod are having a more difficult time motivating kids by screaming. Sad but is the facts. Huggs can pull it off because you need less kids so you can take your time recruiting but football is different and look how Neal is do it now

If WV wins...
Teams will figure out your weaknesses and exploit them.

The Big 12 has became one of the better conferences because of coaching.
A lot of what you see elsewhere originated from the Big 12 and more importantly Texas High School Football.

This is why WV thought DH was a great fit for WV in the Big 12.
Neal Brown has ties to the conference as well.

I agree on Gibson.

He ran an odd man front but not the type that was needed because he needed a LB as a hybrid.
I like the Kyle Whittingham line of the odd man front. What they do at LSU and Texas.
I liked Gibson's attacking style but he didn't have the CB to live on the blitz.

Its this attitude that upsets me....we should expect to play at a high level and Don Nehlen pulled it off so we know it can be done....Don won at a high level once every four or five years....that is fair expectation...

What's funny is AllEers makes some good points.....Ollie had his little social media advocates pushing his agenda....and many of our fans took the bait hook line and sinker.....also, some members of these message boards got very personal with attacks when some fans didn't buy into the pro Ollie agenda...I know I left for a long time myself

That's one of the reasons why "Hank Hill" was pushed out. He didn't buy into Oliver Luck and his PR machine. Many other posters and some mods (excluding Vernon) on here use to attack users who would speak out against Oliver Luck and the new hiring of Dana.

Ollie didn't do everything bad...but he was working OT to cover for Dana and his many mistakes....in all fairness...Ollie was in a bad spot...he wanted his own football coach and he was getting lots of push back...then the HCIW thing blew up and a ton of fighting within the athletic department took place while at the same time Dana was out drinking all over the state creating a mess...then add in Dana would not get out of bed for the 6:00 spring practices...then Stew passed away and he was not invited to the services where a lot of Ollie's former teammates and coaches would be attending......then Dana would continue to be a problem with hiring staff, drinking, and gambling.....honestly it was crazy Ollie was able to keep that circus together....the guy from Penn State was brought in for a reason

Well in fairness, Ollie was watching the media and social outlets to see who was supporting the company line so it was a difficult time...no one wants a press pass pulled...the sad thing is Clements, Ollie, and Dana were all short-timers and Dana wanted out when Geno left...someone did mention in this thread that the biggest issue was Ollie offering Dana the contract ext.....

2012...
Big 12 was good in 2012.
Had 9 bowl eligible teams. All 9 of these teams were ranked at one time
2012 and 2013 were tough years in the Big 12.
Kansas was the only weakling.
2013 Iowa St wasn't as good but what Tom Herman built as OC was still there in 2012.

Even with coaching.
Mack Brown, Bob Stoops and Art Briles were around at that time.

With Mike Locksley at Maryland I think it will be harder.

I think this is more important than the coach.
I think Neal Brown should make Maryland his primary recruiting target.

If those were the 4 worst coaches in the Big 12 in 2012 that is saying something.

Charlie Weis was a SB winning assistant. Won 3 SB in 4 years with New England as OC
Coached ND to a BCS bowl game
Tuberville coached Auburn to an undefeated season
Mack Brown is a NC coach

Brown and Tuberville in 2004, 2005 and 2006 were a combined 68-8 with 2 Rose Bowl wins, a Sugar Bowl win, Cotton and Alamo Bowl.

The best in the Big East in 2010 failed elsewhere.
Strong, Jones and Graham.

Don't know the exact percentage but it has to be around 50% of coaches from G5 to P5 that get fired within 5 years.

Neal Brown will be coaching against other coaches who have had the same amount or more success than him.

Neal Brown may not either.
Does that mean he is a horrible coach. You are setting the guy up for failure.

Dana Holgersen gave WV a chance to be competitive. Sometimes it takes time.
Bill Snyder didn't win his first conference championship until 2003. Almost 15 years after taking the job. His first chance his team was upset and cost K State a chance at the first BCS game.

I don't think Dana was doing all the little things needed to win at a high level...the attention to detail will make HCNB better from day one...bottom line...we have a better football coach now

Somebody finally gets it.

This is the I Told You So Post!

Fans need to learn to support the program and not a coach. Dana was not good for WV from the start. He was caught drunk at the dog track in St Albans and over slept for a meeting with the Gov. the first two weeks here and everyone defended him(now the Ollie PR machine went into work fast on that one). How about the time Stew and his boys were in watching film during spring ball and Dana was out drinking with his boys, but this was Stew's fault because one of his coaches told to many people. Or how about the time Dana got so mad after losing that he didn't fly back with the team and didn't show up to practice until Wednesday, but once again this was a person on the staffs fault for telling people that we should have a concern.

Now, Dana got better after Ollie laid down the law following his second year(were the DC was the scapegoat) but that was when Dana hired a bunch of people that had no business coaching at this level, but it was Dunlap's fault for telling Ollie the defense was just not going to work. See the pattern, Ollie and his PR machine always made it someone else's problem.

Dana could not handle hirng and firing and day to day operations so Ollie hires the ex Penn State coach. Dana wanted out of florida recruiting because those kids were to much work so Ollie hired Seider. Lots of covering for Dana. Notice when Dana leaves Ollie pokes his head out of the said to make statements to the press.

Dana got better while he was here but I was the one telling everyone he was not fit to be a coach early in his career. I told you guys so, but lots of people were fans of Dana and not the football program.

Some things to think about!!!!!

btw...I notice some of the old Dana lovers are gone from the message board now. Hahahaha!!!!

You should post this on Houston's board.
