Republicans have a tax-cheating fetish

It’s a cynical and self-defeating idea. Cutting the IRS budget doesn’t save money. It costs money, because with fewer resources the tax agency will have a harder time catching wealthy tax cheats who don’t pay what they owe. The CBO analyzed Johnson’s Israel bill and found cutting the IRS budget by $14.3 billion would reduce federal revenues by $26.8 billion, for a net cost to taxpayers of $12.5 billion

The CBO estimated that the additional funding would help the IRS pull in about $180 billion in additional tax revenue during that time period, mainly through stronger enforcement. On net, that would amount to $100 billion in revenue above costs, the amount by which the overall measure would reduce deficits.
I understand where you are trying to go with this. What's apparent is you've never worked in a bureaucratic arena or you wouldn't try to be making this point.

In a bureaucratic arena, such as our government, that money would just be spent on "something else". It could go towards roads and bridges or other necessary infrastructure but it won't. That part of the budget is capped at around 1%. Farmers struggling with drought or floods? Nope - 1%. The list could go on. Instead, it will be spent on some pork project somewhere so that Bob can keep getting re-elected. It will be spent on some "research" about the mating habits of fruit flies or some such so that Jim can get re-elected. It will be spent on another Abrams to replace the one that rusted up sitting in that parking lot in Louisiana.

The key point is - it HAS to be spent. There is NEVER a savings when it comes to the government (or any bureaucratic agency for that matter). If you don't spend it, you don't get it again and the money goes to someone else. See how it works...

What puts you in debt isn't what you make - its what you spend.

When Democrats are in office, they like a tax and spend policy; when Republicans are in its a borrow and spend.

Either way, its further debt that gets pushed on to our grandchildren now. Saw where if we were going to pay down the national debt today it would cost each American a whopping $180K. This debt came from Democrats.... AND Republicans. At least with the Dems you know what you're going to get - Republicans just lie straight-faced about fiscal responsibility.

Mandatory spending on entitlements and military eat up over 80% of the budget. That's where a major overhaul needs to occur. It's a sacrifice each party is going to have to make.

Until we quit spending trillions more than we take in, no matter how many cheat, it won't make a hill of beans. Get the financial house in order, then we can take on the tax cheats - from both parties.
Can you imagine running a household, let alone a corporation like the government is run ....holy hell ...

“What puts you in debt isn't what you make - its what you spend.”

That’s really incorrect and superficial. I went in debt to buy my first car (money I spent), but that car allowed me to get a job (money I earned). The interstate highway system is similar. We went (and go) in debt to build them, but the payback from improved commerce increases GDP.

The initial costs of building the system were paid for by taxpayers, and taxpayers through excise taxes on gasoline, fees on vehicle licensing, and transportation of goods and services pay for ongoing maintenance. The roads don't keep costing what we paid to build them, and nothing government does ever pays to maintain them. The money is always raised through private commerce, and taxpayers get charged with the bill!

We don't have a deficit because we tax too little. We have a deficit because we spend too much! That fact is something you Socialists on the Left never accept, and quite frankly don't understand because you think ALL government spending is justified. No it isn't, and most of it can easily be reduced or even eliminated in favor of allowing the people who earn the money government spends on itself keeping that instead & spending it on themselves.

That of course is anathema to any of you Leviathan loving leeches.

I posted earlier ITT you can't discuss basic economics and/or taxation with these mind numbed Leftists! They have been conditioned to believe all economic activity emanates from a more muscular and robust central government, therefore all spending to maintain and grow it is not only necessary but a pre requisite for any private commerce to even exist!

That is a total bastardization of our free enterprise free market system but they simply cannot see it operating any other way unless the government is smack dab in the middle of it picking winners and losers, who gets paid and how much the government's take is going to be?

True to a certain extent. Not all debt is bad. The car itself depreciated in value the minute you bought it, so economically that was "bad" debt. The value of the job/earning money is a good thing. But, I bet you didn't immediately after getting that car and job go buy a 350K house from your job working at McDonalds ( not a put down, just using a typical first time job for people as an example). THAT is what the government does - overspending by "borrowing" on future wages.

Putting that money toward infrastructure is a good thing - something Constitutional and also something that everyone - Republicans and Democrats - can agree upon.

The problem is how much is spent on infrastructure compared to the rest of the budget - a little over 1%. Add up anything that could even be construed as such and you're looking at less than 5%.

Right now, just the interest alone on the national debt equals over 90% GDP. This is unsustainable as the debt just keeps growing. America's future is at stake and its high time the Republicans and Democrats stop the nonsense and work together to get it fixed. Trouble is, it would also cause a massive amount of sacrifice and we, as a people, have had it so good for so long we'd never go along with it.

You realize none of this is being reported by the so called "news media"? They are ignoring this story like they ignored Trump's massive rallies during the '20 campaign. To this day Biden voters have no idea how popular Trump was compared to the paltry crowds that turned out at Biden so called "rallies"...I mean it was pathetic.

Trump had 20 mile long motorcades, boat parades, overflowing crowds at venues...and none of it was ever shown on the main news media broadcast outlets. It was a total blackout.

Likewise, to this day, the vast majority of people who don't frequent alternative media have no idea of how corrupt Joe Biden and his family are, and they are clueless about these ongoing revelations you're posting because it's not being covered. If/when Republicans do get around to impeaching Biden, most folks will think it's just Republicans playing petty politics because the media is not reporting these stunning revelations of rampant corruption and lying.

Imagine if this were Trump?

They are reporting it now. They are trying to pressure Biden to exit. Newsome is on deck. They think a new candidate will help. It won't. Same policies that don't accomplish anything except destroy our country.

The problem is though it isn't just the "socialist/leftist" who are to blame. Trump and Bush did as much or more damage to the debt as any Democrat ever did. With the Dems, everybody knows where they stand - they don't even lie about it.

These economic Rhinos like Trump and Bush bold-face lied and did it all with the goal of benefitting themselves, supporters, and their re-elections. Each side just pads the wallets of the people who help get them there - no matter the consequences.

This is one issue no side has a favorable argument.

Yes this is true...our deficits and the out-of-control spending cannot be laid just at the feet of Democrats. The "uniparty" is to blame here. We need honest and determined representatives who are willing to tackle this problem regardless of whose Ox gets gored? We are on an unsustainable path towards fiscal insolvency (I'd argue we're already there) and unless we reign in these deficits we all will suffer regardless of which party we blame.

The problem is Trump isn't a professional politician. Professional politicians know this is how the game is played - the bigger the office the bigger the malfeasance that goes on. If you lose, you realize its just a learning experience and you get better at it the next time you run. Look at Nixon as an example. Everyone wrote him off by 62 after losing the California Gubernatorial race. By 72, even though he has re-election in the bag, he let past failures destroy his presidency - from within.

A true politician would have simply "accepted" his defeat and waited until Biden's presidency, which never had the support of even the majority of the Democratic Party, imploded - which everyone with half a brain realized was going to happen.

Unfortunately, it may be his downfall.

I don't watch the major news outlets so I can't say if it's being widely reported or not? I know in speaking with Democrat supporters in my own social circles very few of them are even remotely aware Biden's corrupt money laundering is under Congressional investigation, much less any of these damming revelations you're posting. They all do think Trump is a "criminal" facing multiple felonies because of course that's constantly being reported on the major broadcast outlets! However if I ask them to comment on Biden's lies about the fact he knew nothing about Foreign money being deposited into his Son's bank accounts and distributed among his Family...they just claim I'm regurgitating "conspiracy theories" from Social media.

Trump draws such visceral hatred among the ruling political elites precisely because he doesn't play that game you've described IMO. I do think his own arrogance and political naivete does not serve him well, but I appreciate the fact he loathes the ruling elites as much as we do and that's what I think is the main appeal to his supporters.

Problem is that very few people in this country even know what the candidates stand for so even fewer vote regarding policy or platform. Right now, the Dems are simply going to wait to see what happens with regards to Trump and all his trials. There is the hope that a conviction or two might allow, in desperation, states to keep him off the ballot because of the 14th Amendment. This is their Hail Mary, but that could only occur if he's convicted and the Supreme Court rules in their favor.

If not, then look for Biden to bow out by late Spring/early Summer. Newsome looks like the most likely candidate and would appeal to women voters as well as possibly bringing some Black votes back into the fold. To add, that wouldn't give the Trump campaign a good head start in their smear attacks toward him so they'd have to be playing catch-up.

What's the worst? It would give that swing voter who can't stomach Trump but dislikes Biden for his age, economy, etc. an alternative they could maybe go for - remember, few people vote for a candidate based upon their beliefs.

While it's true very few voters take time to study the issues, we typically get what we vote for. All one has to do is look at California for a preview of what's in store for the rest of the country if voters are dumb enough to put that guy (Newsome) in office!

Lord help us!

What's pathetic is the Republicans or Independents that can't get it through their head that if they get by with doing this to Trump they will keep doing it to whoever else runs against them. What's more pathetic are those that claim to be Republican or Independent who actually hope they succeed because Orange Man Bad.

Independents +10. Should be alot higher. Unless you like what's happening with the economy, border, and foreign wars.

Despite all the media smearing of Trump and all the attempts by Dems to keep him from running, clearly none of it has worked.

Really?

  • In the current fiscal year, interest spending is on track to surpass $800 billion, more than double 2021's $352 billion figure. In 2026, the government's net interest expense would reach 3.3% of GDP, the highest on record.
The U.S. government's interest bill is skyrocketing
Yeah, that was a big misprint. Got the numbers reversed. Clearly, it was wrong. Still, everything else written was solid and the interest is "skyrocketing" according to your own source.
