MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 10, 2023) – The West Virginia University golf team returns to competition on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Gators Invitational presented by VyStar, hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.

Thirteen teams are scheduled to compete, including No. 9 Florida, No. 25 Georgia Southern, No. 40 Liberty, No. 42 North Florida, No. 56 Stetson, No. 60 Florida Gulf Coast, No. 89 South Florida, No. 97 Penn State, No. 105 WVU, No. 127 Jacksonville, No. 143 North Texas, No. 155 Florida Atlantic and No. 176 Kennesaw State.

The Mountaineers will tee off at 8 a.m. Saturday on the par-70, 6,701-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course. Golfers will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday.

“This golf course will challenge your ability to make smart decisions and your skill around the greens,” coach Sean Covich said. “We talked a lot as a team about our commitment to good targets, especially on these challenging par three holes at Florida. I am interested to see what we do this week, hopefully we play more like the final round in Arizona.”

In the final round at the Arizona Intercollegiate on Jan. 31, WVU shot 8-under-par, the 14th lowest round in school history vs. par.

Senior Trent Tipton, juniors Jackson Davenport and Will Stakel, sophomore Max Green and freshman Westy McCabe will represent the Mountaineers at this year’s event. The top four scores will count towards West Virginia’s overall team score.
