Having now been through a few cycles of President/AD changes along with coaching regimes, it seems that we have landed well when we transition if not rid ourselves of some of those who are holding us back/over-stepping their boundaries/passed their moment. To wit:
Hardesty(95-07)/Pastilong (87-10) and Nehlen/Catlett/Van Zant run
- Hardesty led 1995-2007 and did some good things academic/money and athletics
- Pastilong did well with what resources we had, but was nearing his end, not innovative/risk taking
- Brought in Rich Rod and navigated Catlett disaster ending, hiring Beilein (after botching Huggs hiring) and then hired Huggs
- Hardesty replaced by Garrison who did not work well with Rich Rod
- kept Van Zant and about every coach 20+ years where mediocrity was good enough
Clements (09-13)/Luck (10-14) and Stew/Dana/Huggs
- one of the best presidents in recent memory, paired with a CEO risk-taking AD
- one of our best runs in raising money, sports facilities, joining Big 12, innovative changes, new baseball field funded, Final 4
- hired Mazey, several other good hires in other sports
- had this team been heading us up last 4 years and in NIL we would have killed it
Gee (14-23)/Lyons (15-22) and Dana/Brown and Huggs
- old man Gee has mismanaged/mishandled about everything, and Lyons was NOT a fundraiser, MAC funding as low as ever and we replaced Dana with Brown and went all in
- we are at our lowest about everywhere other than Mazey and women's soccer
New President 23-???/Baker (22-??)
- new football coach, under the regime of a new president and with Wren being what appears to be more of a risk take than Lyons, innovator like Luck at AD
I think 23-26 are setting up similarly for a nice run - probably Stage 3 but thinking Stage 4 around the corner
