I personally have no clue whether this report is true or not. And Lord knows I hope and pray it's not true, because the idea that WVU would voluntarily eliminate almost 37% of its Math/Data Science faculty while leaving its WAGS faculty literally unscathed strikes me as The Platonic Ideal of academic tone-deafness and detachment from this State's challenging economic and political reality. But if true, methinks the Legislature and Governor need to intervene ASAP and provide some reality-based supervision for The Bowtie Administration's alleged/apparent budgetary priorities.
Sidenote: If anyone who is more wired into the WVU budgetary process could shed some light into the true nature of the proposed cuts, I'd greatly appreciate it. Again, I have no clue if this report is true or not, and would welcome any evidence-based indication that it is off-base.
