BOULDER, Colo. (Dec. 21, 2024) – The No. 14-ranked West Virginia University women's basketball opened Big 12 conference play with a 65-60 road loss to Colorado on Saturday inside the CU Events Center.

The Mountaineers led by 11 points entering the fourth quarter but offensive struggles plagued the WVU effort. Colorado went 9 of 11 from the floor in the frame after attaching the paint for the bulk of their scoring. The Mountaineers, on the other hand, connected on just 2 of 12 of their attempts as the Buffs outscored WVU 25-9.

Junior guard Jordan Harrison led the Mountaineers with 18 points, adding five assists and four steals. Senior guard JJ Quinerly was the only other WVU player to finish in double figures with 15 points. Senior guard Kyah Watson finished with a team-leading eight rebounds and matched Harrison with a game-high four steals.

The Mountaineers made just 39.2 percent of their shots and hit just 26.1 percent from beyond the arc. Colorado coughed up 19 turnovers in the game, leading to 24 WVU points, but made 54.3 percent of its attempts.

West Virginia managed double-figure leads in all three of the final quarters, including a 16-point advantage in the late stages of the third. The Mountaineers finished the game with just eight assists, well below the team’s season average of 15.7 per game.

West Virginia returns to the floor after the first of the year when they welcome UCF to the WVU Coliseum in the Big 12 Conference home opener on New Year's Day. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. ET.
