WVU Opens Bahamas Trip With Easy Win
NASSAU, Bahamas (August 10, 2015) – Jonathan Holton, Esa Ahmad and Devin Williams had 15 points each to lead West Virginia to a 111-39 victory over IBA Elite at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium in Nassau, Bahamas.
Holton also had 11 rebounds to record the double-double for the Mountaineers. WVU outrebounded IBA Elite, 55-22.
The Mountaineers, led by 10 steals from Daxter Miles Jr. and nine steals from Jaysean Paige, recorded 43 steals and forced 55 IBA Elite turnovers.
“I thought defensively we did some good things,” said coach Bob Huggins. “We have to continue to get better and not develop bad habits. Overall, we played pretty hard.”
West Virginia, leading 14-13 with 5:23 to go in the first quarter, closed out the quarter on a 22-2 run to take a 36-15 lead. In the second quarter, WVU outscored IBA Elite, 28-3, to lead at halftime, 64-18. At halftime, WVU had three guys in double figures, led by Holton (12), Williams (11) and Jevon Carter (10).
Elijah Macon also reached double figures for the Mountaineers with 14 points. Carter (13) and Paige (12) rounded out WVU’s double-figure scoring.
The game was played under FIBA rules, with four 10-minute quarters and a 24-second shot clock.
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Atlantis All-Stars. WVU will wrap up play in the Bahamas Thursday evening.
