Pickerington Central (Oh.) 2019 guard Jeremiah Francis visited West Virginia for the first time for the elite camp but didn’t expect that a scholarship offer would be coming just a few weeks later.

Francis, 6-foot-2, 196-pounds, received news of the scholarship offer from his father who had spoken with assistant coach Erik Martin. It was something that took him completely by surprise.

“I was really shocked. It kind of blew me away,” he said.

West Virginia is the second program to offer Francis behind Ohio and during his last visit to campus for the elite camp he saw a lot of things to like about the school. The sophomore to be was impressed with the campus as well as the facilities, which he said left him “speechless.”

During the course of the camp, Francis felt as if he impressed the coaching staff and received favorable feedback on what he was able to do on the floor.

“Coach Martin said he really liked my game and just told me to keep working and stay in the gym,” he said. “He said he’ll be watching me throughout my high school career.”

Francis isn’t looking to narrow down his options anytime soon but has been impressed with what he has seen of West Virginia to date and believes his skill set would be a good fit for the Mountaineers.

“It’s a great school and it fits my playing style. They run in transition and they’re called press Virginia. My AAU coach just traps and rotates and what’s what they do,” he said.

While he believes he can be a combo-guard at the next level, Francis labels himself as a point guard. He thinks the strongest aspects of his game at this point are his ability to get to the basket as well as being a floor general distributing the ball. He is coming off a season where he averaged 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during his first year at the high school level.

Francis has already been to schools such as Michigan, Ohio State, Ohio and Toledo and at this point doesn’t have any plans set for any more trips in the immediate future. However, he does plan to make it back to Morgantown at some point in the future.

“The coaching staff are really great guys. They really trust their players,” he said.

Interesting. I played against his father, Jerry, who attended Columbus Wehrle. I also played against Elijah Macon's father, Norman, who attended Columbus Marion-Franklin. Yes, this means that I'm old, but not nearly as old Turkey Buzzard, Slow Head, and WVUAllen, among other ancient posters on here. We should rename this board, "Fossilshed."
