Maryland-Boston College, as difficult as it is to believe, is the first bowl of ANY consequence, and that comes Dec. 26 in Detroit in the Quick Lane Bowl, whatever that is.

Both are 6-6 so another bowl participant will have a losing record after a bowl game.

Boston College is 8-3 against Maryland all-time.

BC is 0-3 against ranked teams this season (Clemson, Louisville and Florida State).

Maryland has lost to Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State and Nebraska, but won its first four games (including Howard and Florida International) before losing 6 of the next 7.

Compare that to WVU (10-2) and Miami (8-4) i

Quick Lane Bowl? From the name this bowl sounds like it should be held in a bowling alley. Not a bad idea since the bowls so far have been in the gutter.

All WV fans will agree with OP. My neighbors don't even know that the game is being played. Yes.............I'm serious.

Nobody really cares about most bowls other than the playoffs

And that is why the current system is killing the college game experience...winning a conference means nothing, having a winning record means less, finishing in the Top 10 but not the Top four means little. Empty seats. Sucks.

It's almost like they start with the low interest bowls

And

Move on to the higher marque bowls as the holiday season goes on

Or something like that

True... ... but it if a good movie starts off REALLY BAD are people gonna stick around for the really good stuff ?

I don't watch the crappy games but I can see where some college football addicts could easily get burned out quickly.

Funny how the college athletics cartel has things so right on the basketball side and keeps cobbling together disjointed woods on the football side. just use the bowls ...16 of them for first round, eight for second round and the elite four for the final four. Eliminate one of the who cares mismatch games at the beginning of the season to reduce the season length to allow for a true "playoff" and get on with it. That would create uber interest. Sponsors are going to eventually stop shelling out big bucks for the existing bowl system and that won't do anyone any good.

The sport where you can literally go 0-25, run your conference tournament, and then get a chance at the national championship is the one that has it "so right"? LOL, put down the crack pipe one time.

I know, right ?

I giggled each time it happened.

No one cares about any of the bowls OP. Whether or not the teams are 6-6 or 11-2, everybody outside of the fans of participating schools doesn't care equally. Depending on time slot more people put on certain games more than others as background noise.

That's exactly what I proposed a week ago. The two of us are so smart they should put us in charge of the 16-team playoff. That still would let 15 bowls have games and let the other 100 teams switch to classwork early. Win-win for everyone.

The disparity in talent between the top 4 and teams 9-16 is gigantic......
Not really. Southern Cal, Oklahoma State, Louisville, Auburn, West Virginia are not chopped liver. They could beat any team not named Alabama on a good day.

No WVU couldn't.... we played two ranked teams

We lost to both

Wisconsin, Colorado, FSU, Okie St, Auburn.....

Same situation basically

WMU managed a 1 point win over the only decent team on their schedule in Northwestern.....

Just because WVU lost to 2 ranked teams means they suck against ranked teams. Any team can beat any team on a given day. So all I have to say to that is... Go Huskies.

That's a great speech for pop warner and all but by no means does it hold true as real stat over time nor should it be used as a reason to increase the playoff field

USC maybe, they are playing just about as good as anyone at the moment.

Something crazy would have to happen for the others to beat the other 4. Has Skyler Howard ever beaten a ranked team, or even played a close game against a ranked team?

The all knowing Keaton replies. Six teams should be the level for playoffs. Four teams are nothing more than political guru garbage.

Technically speaking, this year there should be NO playoffs........ Alabama is 13-0 in a P5 conference. No team in America did that.

That's a good point. In pre-bcs era this would be as big a slam dunk as any national championship in history. Really isn't a team nearly as deserving.
