Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek 2018 cornerback Jona Gipson had not ever received a letter or anything from West Virginia but the Mountaineers became the first program to offer him a scholarship when cornerbacks coach Blue Adams stopped by to see him during the evaluation period today. Adams met with the head coach of Gipson and was impressed enough with his film that he offered him a scholarship. It was the first offer for Gipson who had been receiving interest from a lot of schools and he told me that right now he doesn't know a lot about West Virginia but is looking forward to developing that relationship with the coaches and taking a visit to find out more. Gipson's given name is actually Jonathan but he was given the nickname Jona when he was little because of there being so many Jonathan's in his family. Gipson actually played safety before his move to cornerback and is a physical player that reeled in a total of four interceptions last year.
