NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 22, 2025) – The West Virginia University baseball team remained unbeaten on the season with a 5-4 victory over Lipscomb, Saturday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field. The Mountaineers improve to 4-0 while the Bisons fall to 2-2.
West Virginia pounded out 14 hits on the day with five players recording multi-hit games. Senior Brodie Kresser scored two runs while redshirt-freshman Alex Marot, sophomore Michael Perazza, sophomore Armani Guzman, and senior Jace Rinehart each knocked in a run.
On the mound, graduate student Jack Kartsonas earned the win with 2.1 scoreless innings in relief, striking out three. Senior Reese Bassinger collected his third save of the season with 2.0 innings of work.
Lipscomb jumped out to an early lead with a two-run home run in the first. After the Mountaineers got one run back in the second, they tied the game in the fourth on a two-out single from Guzman.
Both teams put a run on the board in the fifth with Marot driving in a run on an infield single for the Mountaineers. Perazza gave WVU the lead once again the seventh with a sacrifice fly before Rinehart put down a squeeze bunt in the eighth to provide insurance.
The Bisons hit their third home run of the game in the eighth, but Bassinger locked it down in the ninth to secure the victory.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+.
