MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 31, 2024) After struggling at the plate in the first two games of the series, the West Virginia University baseball team broke out on Sunday in a 15-10 victory over Oklahoma State. The Mountaineers improve to 16-12 while the Cowboys fall to 18-10. Both teams are also now 5-4 in Big 12 play.

Freshman Spencer Barnett went 4-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. Junior Kyle West had a pair of hits, including a home run, while driving in four. Sophomore Sam White reached base five times and scored three runs as did sophomore Benjamin Lumsden.

Oklahoma State took an early lead with a run in the second, but the Mountaineers responded with six runs in the home half, getting a pair of bases-loaded doubles from Barnett and West.

In the third, WVU added three more runs on RBI singles from Barnett and White before senior Reed Chumley added an RBI double.

After the Cowboys came back with two runs in the fourth, West got one back in the home half with his fourth home run of the season.

Oklahoma State did not go down quietly as they scored two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, but the Mountaineers responded both times with three in the sixth and two in the seventh, getting RBI base knocks from Barnett, freshman Aaron Jamison and junior Brodie Kresser.

In the eighth, the Cowboys put three more runs on the board and had the bases loaded with nobody out looking for more, but sophomore Carson Estridge came out of the bullpen and induced a shallow flyout before back-to-back strikeouts ended the last real threat for OSU.

West Virginia will be back in action next weekend against Kansas. First pitch from Lawrence on Friday is set for 7 p.m.
