Hell, let's just find a river bottom somewhere...all of 3 people that care about college baseball anyway!what high school field will marshla have to rent?
would michigan travel to a directional michigan or detroit mercy or oakland or any other lower tier state school ? You know as well as I do that the answer would be "no".......so dont rag on WV for not wanting to travel to the land of heroin and red headed step childrenI looked it up for you, and they play games at the YMCA field. Looked at photographs, and it looks a whole lot like the Fayetteville little league field, concrete block dugouts, with a few bleachers.
Is it still snowing in Northern WV or something? Surprised Lyons has the balls to send a squad to Huntington.
When looking it up, I also see a soccer game scheduled for next week between the two. Herd must still have a good men's team, as they showed them as being ranked #8 in the country. I remember them beating WVU in the NCAA tournament a couple years back, so that must be why they have to travel to Morgantown. Seems like a highly ranked team like the Herd wouldn't want to play a non-ranked team, due to hurting their RPI, SOS, and all the other disingenuous excuses you boys use.
Michigan's governor probably won't even allow Michigan's basketball team to play in the NCAA tournament. Looking for an announcement tomorrow if MSU happens to lose tonight. You still don't understand where WVU fits in the World of Athletics. WVU doesn't have Michigan's history, and Marshall has accomplished more than Detroit Mercy & Oakland. WVU is much closer to Marshall than Michigan is to Detroit Mercy or Oakland. You're delusional.would michigan travel to a directional michigan or detroit mercy or oakland or any other lower tier state school ? Ps. Why has huntington never had a decent ballpark? It makes no sense.
It was OK but not great. When I played Stan Musial and Babe Ruth games in Huntington we played on fields that were not even flat. Most of the guys playing were WV Conference or playing in some other small colleges and they were playing on fields that had hills in the outfield. We didnt have that when we played in Beckley or Logan or anywhere else. From old pictures, the St. Cloud Commons field looked nice. Looked like it was from the movie Bull Durham. Had that barnish look to it. But Huntington let it go to shit and they tore it down and is now home to softball fields.

There was a team from Boone County. When we played then we played down in Logan County. We played home games at Winfield and most teams came there to play us because it was a good field and Winfield let us play there for free. Did you know James Price?Did you ever play any in Boone County? (where I’m from).

James was from Madison I think. He played at Tech when I was there. He was a catcher and smashed a shit ton of homers. His nickname was dirty foot. I have no clue the story behind that. Anyway. Good guy and good player but that would have been mid 90s so maybe a little old for you.I don’t think I know a James Price. I know a Dave Price and played baseball with both of his sons. My high school coach ended up coaching a traveling team that I played for in 2003 and 2004 that was similar to how a Babe Ruth league would be ran. Worst field we played on was when we played at Harts. They had no outfield wall. The best field I ever played in during my whole baseball career was either Buffalo or Winfield. Buffalo has the elevated pitchers mound compared to everywhere else. Both had new turf laid while all of us from Scott and nearby southern areas were used to playing on pure grass fields.
Im not sure if you have noticed, but baseball and little leagues have been decreasing in participation. It sucks that not as many kids play baseball as much. You learn a lot of lessons playing the game, especially starting out young in Tee-ball.
No crying. Just giving sled the same shit he regurgitates once every other day. I have no knowledge of anything about Huntington. Only been there twice in my life, and that was both high school sports related. Actually, maybe four times in my life, if you include a couple trips to Camden Park back in the late 60s or real early 70s.Why are you crying again?

Know you're asking dave, but I certainly did. Think I may have mentioned it before, but we had to play Sherman in a baseball regional and lost 1-0, with him throwing what seemed to be 140 MPH fastballs. Dude was an incredible athlete in every sport. We also played Scott, as well as Van. Wasn't Marsh Fork located in Boone County? Know it was close, but maybe it was in Raleigh. We played them when they were Marsh Fork, but I believe they were part of the combined schools that made up Raleigh Liberty, so perhaps MF was in Raleigh County. Too many years ago for my fading memory, but definitely can vividly recall bailing out on David Daniels fastball.Did you ever play any in Boone County? (where I’m from).
100 %...couldn't have stated it better myself! You still don't understand where WVU fits in the World of Athletics. I did..but probably way before you......you ever play in the old Watt Powell in Kanawha City?Anybody else play at old City Park in Parkersburg? My American Legion team played there multiple times. I'll never forget it because the infield was astroturf, but the outfield was grass, and had huge light poles grounded in cement. I liked the true hops because I was a third baseman when I didn't pitch, but wouldn't have liked playing in the outfield.

We played over at Liberty Raleigh the first year the school opened, which would have been the 77-78 football season. We weren't all that good, but even we beat them like 44-0 or something like that. As for Van, they had one of the top baseball programs in the state, regardless of school size. Ironically, my 8th grade football and basketball coach (this is mid 70's) was Bob Mullett, who turned Van into a damn good Class A football program, prior to moving on to Concord.Marsh Fork combined to make Liberty Raleigh, right there in Raleigh County near the Glen Daniels area. Theres a Dairy Queen near the high school, and the high school is up on a big hill. Marsh Fork would be close to Whitesville too (in Boone County), which sends their students to Sherman High School.
For some reason, we would struggle with Van at times throughout the years. They had a good ace that was a freshman the same time that I was so he started against us often. He threw a strong fastball and led them to the state tournament in Single A in 2004 and 2007. Van has always been a good baseball school and even rattled off 3 straight titles in 91, 92, 93.
That's crazy. Coach Mullett taught a "dance" class that I had in high school my senior year. He would sit there during class and talk to some of us players about the years he coached football and talked very highly of Concord and their football coach at the time, Coach Cox. Coach Mullett was retired from football coaching when I was in high school but coached the freshman basketball team. I think a few years after I graduated, he returned to Van to coach football again for a few years. We played over at Liberty Raleigh the first year the school opened, which would have been the 77-78 football season. no... he completely missed the nail....which he does quite oftenKC hit the nail on the head...sorry if it hurt!
He was a character back in the day, and I'm sure he still is today. Before I moved to Fayetteville, he would get in the press box at Gauley Bridge and do play by play during football games, as though he was doing it for TV purposes. Stocky guy too. He'd probably kill you if he punched you in the face. That's crazy. Coach Mullett taught a "dance" class that I had in high school my senior year. Field is still there. Infield is grass now, I think. Several teams use it.Anybody else play at old City Park in Parkersburg? My American Legion team played there multiple times. Tech played their games at East Bank HS baseball field when I went there and their left field fence is about 320 maybe 315 feet. Foot took advantage of that. He probably stole 6 or 7 homers hitting what would be warning track outs at most places. He was a good catcher though. Great arm and good hitter. No crying. Hell, we played a bunch of games up Boomer holler when I was there. That was the field where UKV played little league and senior league games. Left field home run line was the woods, maybe 275 feet. I remember people going into the weeds and bushes to catch balls and arguments whether they were home runs or not, based on a spray painted home run line.Tech played their games at East Bank HS baseball field when I went there and their left field fence is about 320 maybe 315 feet.
