WVU Release WVU Baseball - Backyard Brawl Set for Tuesday in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 15, 2024) The No. 22 West Virginia University baseball team is back at Kendrick Family Ballpark on Tuesday for the first edition of the Backyard Brawl this season. First pitch against Pitt is set for 6:30 p.m.



The game will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Mountaineers Sports Network on all radio affiliates as well as The Varsity Network, the WVU Gameday App, and WVUSports.com.



The Mountaineers enter the contest with a 22-13 record and winners of seven of their last eight games which include sweeps over Kansas and No. 17 UCF.



Senior Reed Chumley hit a walk-off home run on Sunday against the Knights to cap off the sweep. It was his 10th home run of the season which leads the team. Sophomore Logan Sauve leads the Mountaineers with a .338 batting average while junior Kyle West has a team-high 29 RBI.



On the mound, graduate student Hambleton Oliver has been a key component out of the bullpen with a 3.29 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 27.1 innings pitched.



Led by Head Coach Mike Bell in his sixth season, Pitt is 14-18 this season. Most recently, the Panthers dropped two of three against Duke, salvaging the final game against the seventh-ranked Blue Devils.



Dom Popa leads Pitt with a .320 batting average while Jayden Melendez has a team-high 10 home runs.



Phil Fox has a 1.50 ERA in 14 appearances out of the bullpen to lead the team while collecting three saves.
