With the football team maintaining "middle of the road" kind of seasons and posting 4-5 conference record(s). The basketball team on the up swing and casting a large shadow on the football team especially in conference play. Will WVU future be that of a basketball school that has a average football team? IMO hope not.

Yep! WVU is a basketball school. And a football school. And an engineering school. And a forensic sciences school. And a business school. And a women's volley ball school. And a wresting school. And a rifle school. And a medical school. And a .........

Great post.

Weve had our peaks and valleys in both sports and its safe to say they do not affect each other at all.

we are a basketball school as long as we have huggins and dana

And we'll always be considered one of the dumbest fanbases in America as long as we have you. I guess sometimes you just gotta take the good with the bad and accept what you cannot change.

The folks that don't like Dana........................they won't like the next HC either. The only coach that the WV fan base ever liked (excuse me........loved) was a mans that left them in the middle of the night and never looked south............or east again.

Yup, losing Pappy Bowden was tough, but we got over it.

LOL. I liked the 3 before Dana. I think there is a pretty good chance I like the new guy next year.

The question is who will Dana's fans root for? Will they follow him to his OC job and root for that team??

Nope. The revenues generated between the 2 programs are vastly different. I love WVU basketball, but football is king & likely will always be that way unless it is outlawed at some point (because of head injuries).

I have never met a WVU fan that is a fan of Dana before the program. If anything, he never had a chance with many folks before he even coached a game due to being an "outsider."

b.s. i haven't met them in person. but there are plenty of them here

I think it is more along the lines of "he's our coach, so I'm going to support him."

I don't care if he stays or goes personally. He's not the best head coach but he's also not as bad as some of you make him seem. If we want a great coach we are going to have to pony up, and I'm not sure Lyons is willing to do that. Dana is what, the 8th highest paid coach in the league?

This. Football is the decided most popular sport in the country, that reason alone makes WVU football more popular and important. It would take a KU like streak of 2 years of no conference wins to even start putting the two in the same stratosphere in terms of popularity within our fanbase.

When were on a roll in football = every single person I ever met is on social media chest thumping.

When were on a roll in basketball = crickets unless it's the tournament

I have a hard time believing that. The man has no personal ties to the state, and had never previously worked for the university. Who are these folks, and what motivation would they have for what you accuse them?

Stewart on the other hand did have a large personal following, both inside the fanbase and WVU political circles and media, and imo, those people have been out to undermine Dana since he stepped on campus.

Frankly, Dana is the most disposable head coach we've probably ever had.

The far more likely scenario is that you spend too much time arguing online with people who just like yourself, are too heavily invested into their own opinions.

We get it, we're at the pinnacle, DH is a God, we should celebrate Motel 6 bowls at 3 AM like the rest of the country celebrates the Super Bowl. Anyone who disagrees is a hater, did I miss anything?

So how much revenue did the engineering school bring into the athletic department? I get what your trying to say and although its a valid point its far from what I'm getting at with my post.

Don also coached at a time where WVU fans didn't act like spoiled little bitches too..... He was a 7-win coach, and we were glad to have him

You said "school," not "athletic department".

But you probably believe the athletic department is the school.

It's completely subjective. Hurdy gave you the best answer possible. Take it or leave it.

Nehlen coached us to two undefeated regular seasons, that's a bit different than the highs DH has brought us. He also left WVU after a.... 7 win season which clearly was not good enough then and it still isn't now.

Dana's high was the Orange Bowl. Which was a great moment. Whether he can replicate that, I don't know but I'll give him the chance for as long as the administration does.

The administration gave him another year because of his buyout, that's it. He is not going to lead us anywhere of prominence. We just wasted a handful of defensive draft picks on another middling season, we do not ever simply reload on the defensive side of the ball. There is a good chance our D is among the NCAA's worst next year given the offenses we have to play against, we will be hard pressed to win any more than 6 games including the bowl.

If you have a window of access to Shane Lyons and Gordon Gee, then in the words of Chevy Chase, "If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am now."

You will defend this guy to the grave, I get it. Under no circumstances are you going to budge on this so enjoy DH's last season. If the school having to put out a press release to diffuse rumors he would be gone after some date in his contract, DH firing his ride or die butt buddy DeForest, and finally hiring an OC doesn't scream to you that his seat is red hot then I don't know what to tell you.

You post like you are hoping he fails. That is more pathetic than "defending a guy to the grave" which i have not seen anyone do in this thread.

No idea what Dana did to you, but if you are throwing in the towel in February for the upcoming season, you are a pussy.

I post like that because it is practically spelled out already that he is going to fail. There is nothing to suggest to the contrary that he will suddenly become this great coach he was billed as coming in.

Lets see, we lose 5 probable draft picks on defense. We rarely reload on defense. Its not being a negative person to suggest we will struggle to replace top flight defensive talent, like we usually do. So it is kind of a given the D will take a significant step back.

Offensively we have a solid core, but all will agree that Howard, love him or hate him, has his limitations, expecting him to shoulder the load against the teams in the top half of the Big XII is not realistic if the defense isn't creating opportunities or getting consistent stops.

So the outlook for 2016 is we will struggle on defense, we will be decent on offense. If the defense reaches 2012 or 2013 depths, it could be real bad. Needless to say the upside for next year's team doesn't look too high particularly with two decent opponents on the OOC schedule, unlike last year.

You must have me confused with someone else, because I'm totally indifferent to Dana. I will say that I don't want him to fail, just so we can have the gratification of firing him and I don't think you can say the same. If this is Dana's last season, I will enjoy it the same way I enjoy every other WVU football season - because I'm emotionally capable of doing that (many aren't).

Unlike you, my identity doesn't disappear when our football team is average, so that's why you don't see me screaming and ranting about how we should fire our coach.

I have never played well with those I don't intellectually respect, so I apologize if I've been unpleasant towards you.

You post like that because you don't have the capacity to post anything besides hate fueled rants. I get it, you're angry (I just don't care).

Is there anything easier than demanding we fire a coach on the internet?
