WVU also #6 in coaches poll (finally treating Mountaineers equal to what AP writers have now that the season is almost over).

Gonzaga, Michigan, Baylor, Illinois are #1, #2, #3 and #4 in both.

Coaches rank Alabama #5 (maybe they think they are voting on football?) while writers have the Tide #8 (even that, I think, is too high).

Coaches have Iowa #8, writers #5. I think coaches might be more accurate on that one.

Coaches have Kansas #14, Oklahoma #15, Texas #16, Oklahoma State #17, Texas Tech #18.

That’s 70% of the conference ranked in the top 25!

Only 5 of the 12 Big 10 teams are in the Top 25, which is less than 50%.

That makes the Big 12 the #1 conference in the country THIS SEASON. The ACC has ruled that roost for decades but with Duke, North Carolina in a freefall those days are over … for now. NO ACC team in the top 10. How long has it been before this season when that happened?

Now, let's hope that #6 WVU can make the #3 Bears shit in the (hard)woods on Tuesday!

Too high.

No different than all the other teams that have been there and fallen. It's a 2 team race with everyone else that beat each other anytime.

But more than likely it's an attempt bump a high ranking opponent for Baylor to get them back to #2.

WVU deserves #5 and #6 rankings, based on the snapshot on Monday.

Who knows what will happen to Baylor and Michigan in March Madness?

Gonzaga at #1 is tough to dispute.

Again, national rankings make us feel proud to be Mountaineers but, in March Madness, all that counts is winning 6 straight games. That makes' you national champions! Of course, when WVU won in 1942, the Mountaineers were national champions because the NCAA tournament was a baby then that schools routinely turned down to go to the NIT until the NCAA ruled that you could NOT reject an NCAA bid. How times have changed!

Gonzaga played their schedule in December. They haven't played any teams worth a crap since.

Why no banner hanging in coliseum saying WVU National Basketball Champions 1942?

The NCAA has only recognized Stanford as having won a national championship in men's basketball in 1942.

WVU does not claim its NIT championship from the 1942 as a NC.
UK does claim its NIT championship from the 40's as a NC.

Why Does WVU not claim the National Championship for 1942?
