MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Sept. 5, 2024)
The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the nonconference schedule for the 2024-25 women’s basketball season on Thursday.

This year’s nonconference slate features seven home contests, one road game and three neutral site contests at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida.

“This offseason, we have continued to build off the momentum of last year,” Hayhurst Family Women’s Basketball Head Coach Mark Kellogg said. “The foreign trip this summer to Italy and Croatia allowed us to start team practices earlier than normal and give us a head start on preparations for this upcoming schedule.

“We will play a great mix of exciting home games, a true road game at Temple and a tournament in Florida over Thanksgiving against quality opponents. The goal is always to prepare us for the Big 12 and establish a resume for postseason play.”

The Mountaineers officially open the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 5, welcoming Towson to Morgantown. The Tigers, who are coming off a 20-11 campaign in 2023-24, will help tip off West Virginia’s second season under Kellogg.

On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Mountaineers play host to Niagara. WVU rolled past the Purple Eagles 103-52 last season, marking the second time West Virginia broke the century mark.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Mountaineers renew their rivalry with Pitt, playing host to the Panthers for the first time since 2017. WVU and Pitt have met 48 times with the Mountaineers holding a 29-19 advantage in the series. Last season, the Mountaineers defeated Pitt 71-62 on the road.

West Virginia then plays host to Texas A&M on Friday, Nov. 15. It marks the third-ever meeting between the two and the first time the Aggies have played in Morgantown.

West Virginia closes its six-game, season-opening homestand with contests on Nov. 19 and Nov. 22. WVU first takes on Bowling Green on Tuesday and Lafayette on Friday. It marks the third game against the Falcons and the first-ever meeting against Leopards.

The Mountaineers then head to Estero, Florida for Thanksgiving to compete in the Gulf Coast Showcase. WVU will play three contests from Nov. 29-Dec. 1. Individual game opponents and the full bracket and schedule will be released at a later date.

West Virginia returns to Morgantown on Friday, Dec. 6, to play host to East Tennessee State, which wraps up home nonconference action. WVU closes the first half of the season on Sunday, Dec. 15, on the road against Temple inside McGonigle Hall.

The Mountaineers return four of five starters from a team that produced a 25-8 overall record and a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The team features eight returners and six newcomers.

WVU is highlighted by senior guard JJ Quinerly, who for the second straight, season was an All-Big 12 First Team selection and an all-conference defensive team member. She was named the conference's defensive player of the year in addition to an Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Finalist and a Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Semifinalist.

Junior guard Jordan Harrison solidifies one of the nation's most dynamic backcourts after earning second-team and defensive all-conference honors a season ago.

A full list of game times, television coverage and ticket information for WVU’s 2024-25 nonconference matchups will be released at a later date.
