Why can't the Brawl be played annually?

Pretty sure Pitt has made it clear that they have no interest in an annual game. Eventually once the bad blood dies, I'd expect them to rotate us and Penn State, and maybe ND depending on NDs ACC schedule.
don't miss pitt or psu. we are in big 12, so we must play them first
and then we need to play some sec or big 10 and once in while pac 12.
let pitt dry up and blow away. they could have wanted the game but
it seems that we are begging for them to play us. that would keep our
out of conf. sch. really good.

If we go back to a 4 game non conference schedule, I think it will happen. If we stay in our current format we will continue with playing Pitt in a random home and home every decade or so plus the occassional bowl game.

I dont know why we dont play them home and home in basketball. If it has something to do with fan behavior then schedule the games over Winter break on a Saturday afternoon, no big deal.

But WVU vs Pitt is not some new rivalry like some people try to make WVU vs Marshall (not me) it is a game with a very long standing tradition. And I completely understand the games I listed are in state games but WVU vs Pitt is called the Backyard Brawl for a reason. This is a sad thing for WVU and Pitt fans. The game against Pitt gives us an intriguing OOC matchup, within driving distance if away for both, national TV appeal, and gives the Big12 and ACC to have a highlight game every year. I don't care if we play the first 4 weeks of the season just play this game. I have been going to Mountaineer games for 30 years and Pitt games are some of my favorite memories. I can't help but think that if a big enough push were made by the fans to the AD's they would see this game would be great for everyone involved. My biggest problem is nobody is even trying to make this happen. If they try and fail at least they tried and I guess I could live with that. But no effort is being made to play this game.

This is a serious question. Who do I write to voice my opinion on this matter? If it's someone who will actually see it then I encourage anyone who feels the same way to do the same. If you know Pitt fans get them on board also. Let's get our voice's out there together and get this game back!

I dont think there is enough people willing to do something about it to force an annual home and home on both sides. Pitt in particular is hardly a passionate fanbase, doubtful their boosters get all riled up and force the AD to talk to WVU about scheduling it, especially when Pitt fans generally have a superiority complex when it comes to us. WVU probably has more people big enough that care about playing the game but no way the boosters unite on this issue and try and strong arm the AD into making it happen.

Like I said, with only 3 OOC games in this era of WVU football, each slate is very important. One spot is always going to go to the FCS/low level MAC team, another seems to go to a regional opponent, Maryland through next year and soon after we start playing VT, and after VT we have a 4 game series with Pitt, the last slate goes to a big time national opponent if we can secure it, or another low level team depending on if we need the home game in that given year. Its possible we extend the Pitt deal, but that would only happen after we play them twice and whoever the ADs are then both mutually agree it is beneficial to keep it going.

Someone above said that the Mountaineer-pitt rivalry is a generation thing. Say what? It seemed when Game Day was here last,
that Sweet Caroline still got the proper words inserted. Hell, I want this game so badly, I say play two in pittsburgh for one here for
the first series just to get it going.

Well we already have a 2 for 2 scheduled with them so that is not necessary. Again, there is a decent chance the series becomes full time again following the hiatus, we dont know what the landscape will look like once the series resumes down the road and what the current AD at each school will be thinking.

IMO if we are playing 4 non conference games and after the first two games prove beneficial to both schools, you will see a long term extension, if not the series will go away after that.

I think Pitt and WVU (football and basketball) will schedule each other in the future but probably not every year.

I think Pitt would like to get into a rotation with Penn State and WVU.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

I simply don't understand the basketball aspect. Both schools seemingly play Duquesne every year, there isn't a logical enough reason for the basketball series not to resume

Folks. Times change, and so do so called "rivalries".

WVU and PSU was really NEVER a rivalry. If so then so was WVU & Temple. And I believe it's been 23 years since the schools played & no longer really counting.

As for the backyard brawl, it was a sellout in Motown on occasion but rarely EVER at Heinz. I only remember a sellout there in 2002, but that's the only one I remember.

Pitt went to the ACC. Good for them. Play basketball in the tobacco road controlled conferencw.

WVU is in the Big XII. I have never been happier with our schedule and my ticket value.

As for OOC, I'd rather play Maryland. Better game, no ferry ride necessary, and more fun with less drama. I'd rather get a long ter deal with VPI now that Beamer and Weaver are out too for the same reason.

Oklahoma and Nebraska moved on.
Texas & A&M moved on.
Colorado & Nebraska moved on.
Missouri & Kansas moved on.

Things change. Everyone moves on.

I'm happy the band has no plans to put itself back together so to speak.

Actually I think that Oklahoma and Nebraska just announced a 4 games series between the two of them sometime during their future schedules......

Honestly, us not playing in both sports, but especially basketball, has more to do with our last POS AD (Pederson) and our last Chancellor who retired last year. The reasons mainly have to do with fan behavoir, but long story short, as soon as Pederson was gone our new AD scheduled you guys for a series in football. The bball game will come together soon I believe and I know it's being talked about at Pitt.

Truthfully, Pitt views psu as our biggest rival. But IMO, the whole thing with fans on both sides saying we don't need each other, while true, misses the point. College football is built on passionate regional rivalries, and expansion has killed a lot of that. You may like playing the Oklahoma's and Texas's of the B12, but neither team views you as a rival. Same with Pitt in the ACC.
Players want to play in these types of games and it helps recruiting.

Pitt and WVU should play every year in both football and basketball, IMO.

Unrealistic. That will never happen and it shouldn't. Both schools are strong enough without the need to act like a MAC school and travel 2 for 1. That's he crap Paterno was saying to WVU and Pitt. Total joke. Just man up and say you don't want to play WVU and Pitt. Offering 2 for 1 is typical PSU arrogance. WVU and Pitt would never consider what you suggest.

In football I understand the game not being played yearly. It's nearly impossible with WVU having 9 conf games and Pitt having 9 in the ND years.

Basketball it makes no sense to not play it. I would prefer it be played on each teams home court, but every year at Consol would be fun. I doubt you guys would agree to that though, but if tickets were split......maybe it's not a big deal.
