The first one when Dana ninja kicked Smallwood into Howard causing a fumble for a Oklahoma State TD?

Or the second when he tied a fishing line on the ball and yanked it from Smallwood hand?

I heard rumors after the second mistake Dana was seen twirling his handle bar mustache and snickering but cannot confirm.

Funny how those two mistakes Dana made without a doubt was the difference in the game.

I guess we got Dana's evil twin the first half but the real Dana showed up at halftime and got WVU to score 24 second half points. Good thing to because it would have been 33-2

Let's see. His first mistake was not using similar play calling to the third quarter with the short, high percentage completion passes where we moved the ball right down the field. He never came back to it all night. His second mistake was never throwing a pass to a tight end the whole night, come to think of it, the whole year. His third mistake was not having Smallwood in the backfield in overtime and having Shell in there. One back had 147 yards, the other had 48 yards. His fourth mistake was calling a sweep play in OT on 3rd and 2, with Shell, when we were running the ball between the tackles all night. His fifth mistake was calling some Hail Mary fade on fourth and ten. Other mistakes were never using roll outs to get Howard out of the pocket since he can't seem to throw the ball accurately over the middle. Another mistake is that we don't seem to have a middle screen in the playbook. It is very effective when you get defenses pinning their ears back and coming after you. Another mistake was not calling a timeout in OT. I guess he was saving it for what? Another mistake is not having Crest ready to play QB. Who would you like for us to blame that on? Our punter seems to continue to out kick the coverage and can't seem to angle a punt out of bounds.
So there's a few mistakes, you take your pic as to which one cost us the game.

C'mon Vault...you can't possibly believe that none of the loss falls at his feet? Can you? I still support the current coach and hope he and the team can pull out of this funk...he had every right to be livid with them in the first half, but he made some very questionable decisions late...a few of which are outlined in countryroads89 post...let's hope they can ALL learn from the mistakes made and throw a BIG W on the board this wknd...LGM!

His first mistake happened when he failed to recruit a quality QB by capitalizing on the success of Geno Smith.

Just watched replay. Our guys were in position. As Spurrier said in his press conference this is a game of recruiting. We need a qb and rb's that don't turn the ball over.

This is not professional football where the coach can be overridden by the management on what players he gets to work with and his sole responsibility is X's and O's. If Dana is such a great strategist and immune to criticism for not moving WVU toward a top 5 program in the Big XII, then perhaps he should go to the NFL where he doesn't have to worry about recruiting talented players and teaching them the game. But in the college game, the coaching staff is responsible for the players available. Your excuse works every now and again, but its been a constant for the last 2.5 season and looks to be the excuse for the rest of this season. Bottomline, WVU cannot recruit the needed players. or coach up the players they do get. to compete for a Big XII title.

Smallwood has been Dana's sole bright spot in recruiting an offensive player that is a big contributor. Noticed you did not mention Howard's numerous mistakes which was what truly cost WVU the game. Is it fair to bring up that the focus of his offense (QB and to a lesser extent WR) has been a sore spot for the last 3 seasons with JUCO's being needed to replace the even worse players WVU has on its roster. I suppose Edsall just got railroaded because his QB can't stop throwing picks, since the quality of the players on the field is not at all the responsibility of the coach.

I'd say not being able to field a quality QB in four seasons. That's prolly the biggest one. How long before Howard is diagnosed with a concussion or jock itch? I mean something is obviously wrong with the guy. Surely Dana could coach up a fully cognizant recruit OF HIS to perform better than that. He's a hot dam offensive genius haven't you heard?
