When it comes to gas prices, we're being gaslighted by administration

Gaslighting is a form of psychological maneuvering — some call it abuse — aimed at controlling a person by changing reality to a point where the person doubts their own sanity. The term itself comes from a 1930s play, "Gaslight," in which the main character tries to drive his wife crazy by gradually dimming the gas-powered lights in their home.

Many suggest that “the big lie” is a form of gaslighting, because if people are told repeatedly that the election was rigged, they believe it regardless of facts to the contrary. But gaslighting is hardly limited to the efforts of some Trump supporters. Both parties seem quite successful at using it.

The current administration is gaslighting the American public over gas prices. They are pointing fingers, at U.S. oil companies for profiteering by driving up gas prices during a “time of war.” They are asking citizens to disregard Administration policies which drastically reduced gasoline production leading to today’s inordinately soaring prices.

The progressives pushed to rapidly curtailed fossil fuels before renewable energy sources could cover even a modicum of the country’s energy needs and have resulted in the shortages we have today and consequent price increases. These policies have a rippling effect throughout the economy raising not only gas prices, but all commodities that are dependent on oil including food, shipping, the cost of plastics, and other oil-based commodities.

Clearly, it is the right thing to do in the long run to move the country away from a petroleum based economy toward one that relies more heavily on renewable energy. However, the rapidity by which the new administration moved to close off petroleum products, before alternatives were readily available, is too aggressive.

The federal incentive to replace gasoline-powered cars and trucks with electric vehicles, the cancellation of oil leases in Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico, and the shutting-down of the $9 billion Keystone Pipeline were just some of the actions that cut U.S. refining capacity by 800,000 barrels a day. This artificial constraint on the supply of oil was exacerbated by the fact that many refineries were shut down because of the conversion to more environmentally friendly fuel production. The pandemic and the war in Ukraine were exacerbating factors, but miniscule compared to the self-inflicted wounds of the administration inflicted on the supply of oil.

Instead of pointing out that the transition to renewable fuels will be long and expensive, necessitating sacrifices on the part of Americans, the Administration resorted to gaslighting by pointing the finger at mom and pop gas retailers saying, “Bring down the price you are charging and do it now.”
No party in today’s pump prices are without guilt and the energy industry is complicit. However, to lay the blame solely at the feet of the industry, as President Biden and members of his administration have done, is patently untrue. It is gaslighting in the extreme.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm recently said, “Raising oil prices were an ‘exclamation point’ demonstrating the need to switch from oil to wind and solar.” She exercised extreme gaslighting by not pointing out the Administration’s abrupt policy changes and lack of planning on the part of her department that led to the price increases we see today.

And the gaslighting continues. In May the Department of Justice announced the creation of the Office of Environmental Justice to assure that poor communities are not discriminated against due to the implementation of environmental policies. How that office will address the discriminatory negative impact of raising gasoline prices on the poor, who spend a higher percentage of their disposable income on gas then do higher income families, remains a mystery. Let us hope the approach does not resemble the poor energy policy decisions that the administration has recently made.

The progressive and overly aggressive move to clean energy initiated by the administration was simply devoid of planning and most egregiously absent of any effort to inform Americans about the costs that all of us will pay. Instead, the administration has chosen to point to the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and/or greedy oil executives as the reasons for today’s untenable gas prices.

This gaslighting technique is much easier to conduct than is the arduous work of planning necessary for a thoughtful transition from oil to more renewable sources of energy.

Fair and accurate article.

What if the "big lie" is that we have had free and fair elections in the past?
I don’t think we have. It’s not coincidence the 2 biggest RINO’s both ran against Obama in 2008 and 2012. It was a setup to advance Obama to the WH and keep the racial division alive.

What we have learned about digital voting machines leaves a lot of questions. Votes are checked by recounting prints made by voting machines so if a machine is rigged it creates a paper trail that verifies itself. What could go wrong.

No one on the Left can explain what those mules recorded on video surveillance in the film 2000 mules were doing if it wasn't illegal ballot trafficking/harvesting.

No one.

Yep, and Bill Barr acted like there was never any evidence of those stuffing the ballot boxes. I’m assuming he’s hoping to fool those who did not see the film to think it was just capturing people in the vicinity of the ballot boxes. .

Wow. WTF? You are really going out there and buying full-in this conspiracy stuff. Kudos.

Repeating the narrative they want you to believe does not erase the factual information showing they stole it. There’s literally video of it for godsakes

If someone on the Left could reasonably explain what those Mules were up to, I'd at least forget about all the fake votes Biden received? Yet, no one can offer a reasonable explanation what the same persons who were tracked by cell phone data were doing depositing multiple ballots at multiple drop boxes in multiple locations on multiple days at multiple hours of each day they were tracked? Not only that, many of those same folks were filmed on surveillance cameras!

What was that? Who votes like that? Leftists who insist this election wasn't stolen can't explain that.

Why not?

Can you explain what those Mules were doing? 100% guarantee you cannot. (Unless you truthfully admit they were in engaged in illegal ballot trafficking)

So what were they doing if it wasn't illegal ballot trafficking? You can't even think of a good lie that makes any sense. 😏

I've not watched that Mules documentary, same way I didn't watch a documentary about how 9/11 was "an inside job". If DeSantis wins in 2024, I guess the "mules" were corrected.

Do yourself a favor and watch it. It’s not some conspiracy theory like 9-11. It literally shows the mules doing it on video surveillance. Good lord man smh

So I read a fact-check on it, and the biggest problem is that while providing video footage and geotracking data, the claims of "illegal ballots" were not validated. Simply: the film cannot say if the ballots were legit or not.

EDIT: And if one side (Democrats) knew how to do this, you really think the Republicans didn't as well?

Just because you want to believe it isn't true doesn't make it false.

I mean ignorance stems from a choice
And there's also "proof" or "truth" that man-kind causes climate change. We choose not to believe it is our ignorance?

That's a cop out! There is no harm in informing yourself of the information provided in that film. If it's not legitimate, the facts can easily refute what those Mules were up to? Yet you, nor anyone on the Left who insists this election was legitimate refuses to avail yourselves of this evidence which strongly suggests it was not!

You opened this thread talking about "gaslighting", which you have ironically allowed yourself to become a victim of. You are blinded by your irrational hatred of Trump, therefore you cannot rationally or objectively view the information in this documentary and offer a reasonable, rational explanation or factual rebuttal of it.

Why not?

You know it...they've called me a racist, a sexist, a megalomaniac, a tyrant, a dictator, anti-Liberty, anti environment....you name it. They can't back any of it up atl.

Fair enough...so I've asked you in this thread what were they doing then with all of those ballots? If you claim it wasn't illegal, logically you then have to explain what they were up to that was legal? You cannot.

It’s illegal to do period lol. Thousands of mules stuffing ballots and it’s not enough to investigate? And it was done in all the states in question…PA, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin. And all states Trump was cruising to easily winning prior to the stoppage of the count election night. Then they started counting again at 2-3am and couldn’t stop until a week after the election. And you want to ignore that? Because some msm fact checker says so. Wow. Lol

No, there is factual data available to refute those claims. The climate change fear mongers' own predictive analysis when measured against the actual temperature shifts refute their bogus claims of "man made" climate change. Folks like you refuse to accept that data!

I claimed that the establishment purposely ran the 2 biggest RINO’s against Obama to get him in. My theory is they were only selected to run to lose because the statistics likely showed they couldn’t win against him. Try and pay attention.

But.....they wouldn't see Trump as a threat and do it in 2016? That's not rational. If you are going to make that conspiracy work, it would have to be ongoing in order to keep the power, not take an election cycle "off".

If you "don't know" and refuse to even watch the information provided in the film, stop saying it's just another "conspiracy theory". The "fact checkers" cannot explain what those mules were up to with all of those ballots, so why are you providing their dismissive analysis as "proof" what they were doing was legal? They don't know either!

As for your claim about Democrats being the only ones who know how to stuff illegal ballots I doubt that's true. However they are the ones who have perfected their cheating because they know they will lose most elections without it. Why are they against the voter verification reforms being pushed by many State Legislatures to avoid these clandestine ballot stuffing operations? All of the opposition to voter I.D. and signature verification of voter registration is coming from one side.

The Left. Why?

ans: So they can cheat

I don’t think they took Trump seriously. I don’t think they believed Hillary could lose. Time magazine was already putting her on their cover as Madam President before the election.

Trump wasn't supposed to win. Remember the Dems had an "insurance policy"? They spied on him illegally in an organized effort to smear him with the bogus fake phony Russian collusion charge? Guess you think that's all a "conspiracy theory" too huh?

Exactly! Trump was a response from the GOP voter base to BOTH McCain and Romney! That GOP primary the summer of '15 was loaded with solid Conservative candidates (except for the establishment's Bush entry) and GOP voters picked Trump.
