WVU Release West Virginia Rifle Rolls Past Mount Aloysius

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Oct. 26, 2024) The No. 4-ranked West Virginia University rifle team collected its fifth straight win of the season with a 4744-4530 result over Mount Aloysius on Saturday inside the WVU Shell Building.



The win extends the Mountaineers' regular season win streak to 18 straight matches. West Virginia claimed smallbore and air rifle with marks of 2361 and 2383, respectively. The score in smallbore is the best in the nation this season. The aggregate total matches the best mark this season for WVU and is the third-highest in the nation.

For smallbore and air rifle, senior Gavin Barnick, sophomores Griffin Lake and Lauri Syrja and freshmen Ashlyn Blake and Camryn Camp served as counters for the match.



Barnick finished his afternoon at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 1188. He also finished first in air rifle with a 598 and tied second in smallbore with a 590. All three marks set a new season high.



Blake and Syrja finished in a tie for second place with matching 1185 aggregate scores.



Blake posted the best smallbore score in the field with a 592 while adding a 593 in air rifle. Syrja scored the second-highest total in air rifle, hitting a 596 and scored a 589 in smallbore.



Lake finished in fourth place at 1184, with scores of 590 in smallbore and 594 in air rifle. Camp finished just behind with an 1174, following scores of 579 in smallbore and 595 in air rifle.



Maximus Duncan posted a score of 1169 (582 SB – 587 AR) to finish in sixth place.


The Mountaineers take a week off before returning to action on Nov. 9-10 against Army and John Jay at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center in West Point, New York. WVU takes on Army on Saturday and John Jay Sunday with both matches set to start at 9 a.m. ET.
