--West Virginia head coach Neal Brown said that CJ Donaldson is recovering and is in concussion protocol. He credits the medical staffs and operations at the stadium. They got beat up in that game, had four concussions in the game. They got beat up pretty good.

--Texas fast started and they didn't handle adversity well at all in the first half. Drop and third and fourth down were big and they didn't handle it after that. They competed better in the second half but it was just too late. The interior defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage and that was a huge factor. West Virginia didn't win the turnover margin and couldn't force turnovers. They dropped an interception that ended up being a touchdown. They did a nice job limiting the run until late but the flip side is they didn't run the ball very well at all. They won the battle up front. It's going to be a real struggle for them if they only rush for 61 yards. Explosive plays they had 11 and it wasn't close since they had only 6. Special teams field position was close to even but they didn't win any of those four keys.

--Brown gave them off Sunday and Monday because they had a tough five games. They will practice today, tomorrow and Thursday will be off and they'll start Baylor prep Friday. They'll get developmental guys work tomorrow and special teams wise they will try to get some production out of kickoff return team. They have to create some depth at wide out. Defensively they have to work on their fundamentals they have to do a better job lining up and pass coverage.

--Brown said they must figure out options. The defense didn't play good at any level the other night. Jasir Cox played a good football game, he wouldn't characterize any others as playing good and the secondary piece isn't good enough. They weren't contesting plays down the field. They have to figure out their best pieces and are there opportunities to give others a chance.

--The world of kickoff return has changed. They had five opportunities, they had two the other night to return and they've got to do a better job in winning one-on-ones. Returners have to do a good job trusting and hitting it. They've got to be able to win some blocks and it isn't as easy as just changing returners.

--Medical people handle all the concussion issues. They alert the medical team immediately and there is a strict return to play that they have to follow and Brown is zero involved with it. They can't even start the return to play until they are symptom free. CJ Donaldson will be out for the Baylor game but the rest of the guys it's too early to make a determination on.

--Edge players for Texas played well. They didn't do a good job getting movement on the double teams and getting off to the second level in the run game. They have to be better and schematically they have to continue to grow. They've had good answers this year, but some of that is they thought they would be in 12-personnel and Mike O'Laughlin got hurt.

--The offensive line did a good job in the pass protection standpoint and the running backs did as well. JT Daniels played well, they don't want as many drop back passes as they had to throw and there is some he'd want back but he made some tough plays.

--Texas slid over and played more of a head up nose. They go back to the plays they like against the front, but you might not have as many reps as you would in the course of a normal game week. They were doing a good job getting their nickel in the box and while he wasn't getting there quickly he was close enough to tackle after 2-3 yards. In the boundary, they were bringing a nickel or a corner to get 7 in the box. They didn't tie up that guy as much as they wanted to or didn't break any tackles. The 12-personnel helps you on the edge. They liked their match ups there and would tie up edge players but they didn't have that after O'Laughlin got hurt.

--If you go back and look they had 7 drops in the game and 6 are by wideouts. The timing was fine that wasn't an issue, it comes down to fundamental errors. There is going to be a certain percentage, you want to catch +90% of the catchable balls. Seven drops is not catching 90-percent. You need to catch the ball at the front of your face. A lot of the drops are hand placement and fundamental issues.

--Brown doesn't think it's to the point it was six or seven years ago but some of the scoring in the league will slow down as there is more film out there. There is some really good offensive personnel in the league and a lot of graduation on the defensive side.

--It's not something Daniels can help with when it comes to drops, he has to deliver the ball. It's a repetition, you have to continue to rep it and correct mistakes. He wishes there was a magic button but it's about catching balls and making sure my hands are in the right spot.

--From a recruiting standpoint, they'd like to be in the low 20's and when you get into transfer season sometime in December you have an idea what your needs are. They'd like to continue to add a few high school guys. They went out this Friday and the Friday after will be a big recruiting day.

--They played a lot of man week one, Kansas didn't allow you to play man, when Charles Woods was playing they played more man but the last two weeks they wanted to play more man but when they've done it they have been burned quite a bit. They've given up plays at the corner spot in man. They have to be able to change it up they have to play a coverage they can get lined up the fastest in and be successful.

--Brown said you're always in an evaluation mode with your own roster and what you can bring. Now, you don't know and it's more about how you want to handle the percentage of high school and the percentage of transfers. They've got a ball park based on educated guesses on who could transfer out, how many people might use the extra year of eligibility, where you'll have position of need and other factors.

--Corner they've been searching a little bit and they got injured during the game. Bin-Wahad and Wilson-Lamp did some things against power five talent, but also did some things that hurt them as well but they showed signs that they could help them.

--The hope is that Woods is able to come back at some point. O'Laughlin is getting check out this week.

I don’t think they truly left. Maybe for the Towson game. But they definitely got worse Saturday at Texas.
Love when a coach in his fourth year points to the need to improve fundamentals like catching the ball. If your program hasn't been built to eliminate these by now, do you really have a "program".....or just a team of players?

Not all of these players have been here 4 years.

I still can't get over his comments on catching the f'n ball, lol. I mean these are P5 recruits that his staff recruited, yet we seem blind-sided by the lack of an elementary skill and what should be a basic coaching piece .

doesn't matter you should know who you have, how to recruit to your needs and have a literal program to ensure basic problems like catching doesn't happen

Highest recruiting at WVU. Recruiting talent doesn't mean you can coach.
