—West Virginia head coach Neal Brown said that Bob Huggins getting elected to the Hall of Fame is much deserved. He has meant so much to the game of basketball. He grew up and followed his teams at Cincinnati and they had a cool factor. He had an opportunity to grow a relationship with him and for him to get in there is great.

—Brown wishes Mikey Carey the best. And welcomes the new basketball coach. The game last night was as exciting of a baseball game as he’s seen.

—Mixed bag today and they put the ball down and let them play. Taurus Simmons had a really good day. He had multiple sacks. Lee Kpogba showed why they’re excited about him. Charles Woods and Marcis Floyd impressed. Jordan Jefferson continues to get better in the middle. Offensively the left side of the offensive line played well. Wyatt Milum played really well and James Gmiter has been consistent. At running back they did some good things. Tony Mathis ran hard and Justin Johnson it’s clicking for him. At receiver Preston Fox make plays and the quarterbacks have a lot of trust in him. Kaden Prather looked like a guy that they’ve really wanted to see while Sam James has impressed.

—Brandon Yates wasn’t dressed out today nothing serious. Ja’Quay Hubbard is growing into that position and his best opportunity to help is at tackle. He has room to grow and gets himself in bad body position at times but they’re impressed with how he’s developing.

—Dylan Ray redshirted last year and from an athleticism standpoint he can play here. He’s a year away from being able to play.

—It’s too early to tell on if they will bring in another defensive lineman. Jalen Thornton, Zeiqui Lawton and some others along with Eddie Vesterinen will be guys that they watch. Sean Martin and Taurus Simmons need to come on.

—Offensively they don’t have a whole lot in so it got a little sloppy with the third team unit.

—Brown doesn’t want the new guys thinking too much right now.

—Anytime something doesn’t go the way you expect or it catches you off guard he likes to take some time and self evaluate. What he did was go through the process and here is the thing he was hurt by that. You go back and say why did it hurt. The best way to go about it is you pour into kids. Personal investment and infrastructure and you can do everything you can and they’re still going to leave. You’re doing all this and is it worth it? Yeah, it is. They’re going to continue to pour into these kids and there will be a lot more success stories.

—Each situation when somebody leaves is different. They don’t have a culture problem. You can’t hide culture problems. If you look at the sidelines and player interactions. If you evaluate you have to evaluate on each of these situations because the players are looking at themselves. The way you go about it is these are young people and some that have left it’s clearly the best to separate sometimes and others the role isn’t where they wanted so they left. There has been a few.

—Roster management is a challenge. The clock is sped up and you have to reassess your thoughts on redshirting and be more intentional.

—There has to be boundaries. Free agency and 365/27 and there is no other enterprise that has that. They have to have some time frames. Here’s what we’re dealing with here is how we respond and make it to our advantage.

—Garrett Greene had a nice day. He threw the deep ball well today and that stuck out. Marchiol was feast or famine. There’s a big difference between Hamilton high school and the first team defense. He threw an interception but didn’t hang his dead and bounced back.

—Taurus Simmons had three sacks. Hammond Russell is a guy that can be a really good player he is different. One of the things they have to get better at is against the run against the best teams in the league and those bigger bodies will give them a chance. Andrew Wilson-Lamp is a guy that is coming and another guy that’s a walk on getting reps is Caden Biser. Davis Mallinger has impressed. Offensively Jaylen Anderson had some really good runs and he is talented and has great contact balance. Treylan Davis at tight end has done really well in the block game.

—Marcis Floyd at Murray State was really well coached. They used him in a lot of different roles and he can play safety or boundary corner. He can communicate well and is skilled.
