--Bob Huggins said he couldn’t imagine the effort being any worse than what it was in the first meeting against Oklahoma. He thought the last couple they played really hard, but they aren’t as good defensively in the past and don’t have a rim protector like they did in the past.

--Huggins said they’re trying to play the best guys they have in the post. It’s an approach by committee.

--Huggins said with the issues on defense they don’t guard the rim the way they’re accustomed to guarding the rim. In the past it’s been very difficult to get something easy. They’re not nearly as good on the ball defenders and don’t have the size and the strength on the perimeter as before.

--What’s true is opponents are making a lot more because West Virginia is giving up the highest field goal percentage in the country at the high major level. You can’t continue to let people shoot 60-percent and win basketball games.

--Huggins said what do I do with guys that want to test the waters of the professional leagues tell them they don’t have a scholarship if they don’t come back? It puts everybody in a difficult situation. A lot of times the players don’t have agents when they’re contemplating whether they’re coming back or not but the process is way too long.

--Players don’t pay attention to what’s happened to others in their situations when it comes to making decisions for whether they decide to go pro.

--Huggins believes that the freshmen they have in their program right now are going to be very good players. They are starting to get some playing time and they’ve got 2 of the 4, but likely all 4 that will see significant minutes next year. It’s better for college basketball and it’s better for the fan base. I don’t know if the fan base would relate to flipping the roster year by year. It’s important to him that his team represents the people of West Virginia.

--Whoever would have expected that Deuce McBride would have left after his sophomore year? It’s a heck of a lot easier when you’ve got some veteran guys that know what you want done on both ends of the floor. That was their strength for a lot of years that they had guys that knew that. Now, they have guys out there right now running into each other.

--Groves is a very skilled 6-foot-11 guy. He can shoot it, pass it and dribble it when need be. He’s got a bunch of versatility where he can play with his back to the basket or face the basket. He is a very good rebounder on top of that.

--Keddy Johnson’s injury has hurt them because he is the guy that puts pressure on the top of their offense. He took a heck of a blow and Huggins doesn’t know. He has a hip problem and he’s gotten cracked in the head. He leaves all that up to the medical staff.

--Huggins said that when recruiting transfers, you have to sort out how good they’re going to be when they’re playing at this level. It’s kind of like Dimon Carrigan is not Derek Culver or Sagaba Konate. His body type but he was productive at a lower level.
