A guaranteed extra point (kick) makes it a two possession (Field Goal plus TD and 2 point conversion). Miss the 2 point play at that point makes it a two possession (both needing to be touchdowns) with not that much time left in the game.

With the amount of time left in the game and lack of time outs, two 50+ yard scoring drive would of been impossible.

Yeah go for 2 then onside kick. No time outs and possible 48 seconds to go about 50 yards with a guy that has thrown 4 Intcerceptions going against a prevent defense designed to keep everything in front of you. Eve if we scored there would be no time left on the clock. Not to mention our kicker would have to be at the 20 or inside it to make a FG and it still would be no guarantee.
