san diego state is a athletic a team with lots of finishers. imo, if the press works against them, we are in for a very fun year

It isnt a question of whether the press will work tonight. SDSU turns the ball over a lot against regular defenses, much less ours...

They struggle to score, but they are probably thr best defensive team in America.

Coach Fischer is the best CBB coach active, IMO. He wil focus his front line defense on Devin.

We are going to have to make shots on the perimeter tonight to win.

Tonight's game will be difficult. I stayed up to watch the SDST game and they look good. They are extremely well coached, as one would assume under Fischer. They are extremely athletic as well. This will be our first "test of the young season. Win or lose, we can learn and grow from this game. This game could have the feeling of a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 game in the future.

yeh, it will be tough to score in 1/2 court offense. the press has to work for us to have a good chance. we have to turn them over, get some easy buckets, and hit some threes.

i wish watkins were available. we are significantly undermanned in this game, athletically. as always, the key is the press.

i have no idea how it will play out.

We win tonight. and we will probably be ranked higher than San Diego State in next weeks polls.

Yea....SDSU is the team we need to beat before realistically discussing Final Four chances.....

.....I love you people...I really do.....

Considering that it was SDSU's worst loss since 2009, it's a start.

I never wrote that it wasn't a good/great start to the season.

....but yea, I'm saying our wins (or performances during them) so far in no way translate to a FF team. Obviously, we have not yet eliminated ourselves from legitimate conversation in the future....so that's a positive.

----------

So while the OP is correct that we can talk final four (I mean that's what we're doing)....it's hardly legitimate (yet)

Well .... and I know Keaton won't like this .... Bill Rafferty's comment about "finding a way forward" at the point (or something very much like that comment) points to the key for whether or not this team makes a serious run at the F4.

But before we get to the post-season we will play some very talented teams in the Big 12. It's just a good thing that none of them have ever faced the kind of pressure that we will bring. Right?

Our pressing style is an incredible thing to watch. But the real question going forward is how well this team plays when the press is neutralized. We did lose 8 B12 games last year before Kentucky pulverized us in the NCAA's.

If we can't tilt the court our way with the press will we be able to line up and play basketball? I've seen a few things that indicate this team can start developing a half-court game. We'll see what happens. Should be fun to watch.

"the thread title was for fun. then sentiment is sincere. we have a very good team".[/QUOTE]
Well done paper

If we get a nice draw a Final Four is possible

As in March? You all are kidding right? I love Williams and like this team but don't set this team's expectations so high that you can't enjoy the season unless they're a two seed and make the final four.

Just think Toiletpaper, it was only two years ago you wanted to fire Huggins and now you are predicting that WVU is going to the Final Four.

you are clearly the worst liar on this board. and that is saying something.

no one has supported huggins more vigorously than me.

back to ignore with you

If we ended up in UVA's bracket last year we realistically could have made the Final Four. Its not like every team in the Final Four is stacked with lottery picks.

right.

uk was the terrible matchup. nba height. uncommonly tall guards. worst possible, historically bad scenario for a press defense.

i still wish we tried the triangle and 2 on them. that was marylands plan if they got past us. but you got to dance with the girl that brung ya - so we pressed.

Translation: paper understands basketball about as we as he understands football - got it

Well, teams with "lots of finishers" do tend to make more than 13 baskets in an entire game.....

So....

Lol.

It kills you that I know more about ball than you. And that I routinely demo my superior understanding of the game.

Take solace in that you will always Google more stats and useless info than me.

You started a thread praising the scoring ability of SDSU, one of the worst-shooting basketball teams, annually, over the last 5 seasons

Let's let that sink in

we could do that; we could believe you, or we could read my op. it's still there.

for the record, if sdsu could have handled the press we would have seen an elaborate array of dunks and layups... as those guys can all run and finish the break.

it's time for everyone to realize what huggins already knows (as demonstrated by how hard he is coaching)...

THIS TEAM HAS SPECIAL WRITTEN ALL OVER IT

You called Huggs a drunk and said that his style of coaching was outdated - just your normal troll lingo. Although you may have done it jeopardy style as an answer in the form of a question. Now you have his team going to the Final Four.

i have watched san diego state a lot the past few years.....they are not to this point in the year a great defensive team, and definitely not the best defensive team in america.....three and two years ago, they were very good defensively and on the boards and they weren't bad last year.....they are down a bit this year, but wvu's domination of them still got them props out here.....got a number of calls out here from media colleagues who know i'm a wvu honk saying wvu looked good.....jay mariotti, if you know who he is, texted to say he thinks wvu is a top 10 team right now.....i told him not to get too excited 'til wvu gets deeper in the season but that this team could be very good long-term this year and they could make noise in the tourney due to their 10-deep depth.....i am excited about how deep this team is and how deep they can go off the bench.....one concern is how early we can put a good shooting team on the foul line, but that is the price of doing business with press virginia.....all rewards have risk......personally, i love the risk/reward attitude of this team.....and i really like the immediate future vis-a-vis the next two-three years.....it's a veteran team but still young throughout the roster.....love wvu's guard play.....steve fisher gave wvu a lot of credit today as well......
