In the entire first half, UAB was hit with 5 personal fouls against Iowa State...I figure that's about the 10 or 11 minute mark for fouls in a Big XII game. When they're not playing with 7th grade rec league officiating, they don't do so well. I really miss Big East basketball. Refs in the Big XII suck the life out of every game.

Noooooooo!!! You mean the slightest bump on a ball fake no longer merits a foul??
I'm telling you guys, we're going to benefit big time from this change. They're going to let WVU play. No longer shackled, they will take the ball from these teams like it's pre-conference...

I'm not getting my hopes up because I just know it that we will get John Higgins as our official. Never fails.

In the Baylor game, there has been exactly 1 foul called total in the first 6:00. Baylor's guys will die of exhaustion at that rate.

Final tally:

Georgia State committed 10 fouls in the entire game against Baylor.
Alabama-Birmingham committed all of 13 against against Iowa State.

Both collapsed late...gee, what a surprise.

Nearly three quarters of the way through the Texas-Butler game, Butler has all of eight fouls. Fortunately, Texas is a little better equipped to be physical and should probably start doing so, since they're down 3.

I'm telling you guys, our officiating is so completely out of fashion with the rest of the nation that it's sad. And when we don't have Big 12 officials, it shows for these teams who don't practice very physical defense.

I didn't have a chance to go through the entire conference schedule, but here are the number of fouls called just in WVU's first 11 games.

WVU 33; Opp 28
WVU 26; Opp 18
WVU 23; Opp 27
WVU 21, Opp 19
WVU 30, Opp 20
WVU 34, Opp 30 (OT)
WVU 28, Opp 26
WVU 22, Opp 24
WVU 24, Opp 18
WVU 24, Opp 21
WVU 26, Opp 26

-- That's 548 fouls in 11 basketball games, which averages out to 49.63 fouls per game.
Today, we've had 2 conference teams lose in games where the fouls barely scraped into the 20s.

I miss the Big East more and more ... Big XII has a lot of nice venues and "big names" but quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Butler had 13 fouls called against them yesterday in what looked like a fairly physical game...the guard for TX who was scoring a bunch would have gotten foul after foul called in the Big XII....not so much yesterday. Still, he was the only thing that kept them going. For the record, TX committed 22 fouls...which overall is still about 15 fouls fewer than our average Big XII game....

I can't believe the league officials don't notice this and tell the refs to back off a tad.

Didn't many of our fans complain about it the OTHER way in our BE days?

The Big East was so physical and allowed to play, then we'd get into the tournament and have every single foul called.

Yes, you know who you are.

Beer I have the same feeling. Higgins shows up today in Columbus fresh off of his touch foul calls in Dayton.

Comparing the foul quantities between two teams that do not play remotely similar styles of basketball as WVU does is useless....

We swarm. We defend. We pressure. We foul................. We force teams to play too fast for their liking and they foul.

It's a complete apples/oranges comparison.

The only issue with our fouling is when it happens 60 feet from the hoop. We have the depth that would indicate our opponents should NEVER get an open lay up without having to earn it at the foul line. Using fouls to not give up easy buckets is a GREAT basketball strategy. Committing fouls in the full court press is not.
