I have already had 2 accounts perma-banned from this website for politicking a potential RichRod or Jim Tressel hire.
HOWEVER
I am starting to see the possibility of Dana leading us to a National Championship....AKA the ONLY THING THAT MATTERS.
What has changed my mind (for the time being) is I think he is starting to understand how to play the game.
1.) No more hiring your drinking buddy to be a defensive coordinator (The Deforest hire will go down as one of the worst hires in our history). Dana has always been an offensive coach and its smart if he dedicates most of his time to coaching that side of the ball. He was always best served to hire some genius defensive mastermind (NOT CASTEEL) to coach the defense. I think we found a gem in Tony Gibson.
2.) His play calling the first 4 years has been SHAKY at best and AWFUL at worst. He has had the luxury of coaching NFL talent at all the skill positions and, quite frankly, has massively underachieved in the Win/Loss column to this point. That being said, I'm willing to admit he is HUMAN and can learn from his mistakes. The offense now looks loaded and we are playing a bunch of underclassmen. That says to me that as long as our QB isn't Paul Millard, we will have a good-to-great offense depending on talent level. In this day and age you aren't winning the NC without at least a good offense.
3.) RECRUITING. The more WR's he puts in the NFL, the more highly rated recruits will decide to call Morgantown home.
