Then if we're going to employ a guy who "isn't a good coach" and "flat out can't coach", can it please be the first guy instead of the second one?
I probably wouldn't either.
But I can recognize a good coach with a proven resume of real tangible results against top competition over a long period of time.
Expectations as you're pointing out are the problem. Winning 141 games is not.
Expectations are intangible things that don't exist and things that fans and some media members place upon a team that creates pressure. Should Auburn, for example, be criticized for beginning the season No. 6 and falling on its face? Or should the media who voted and made them No. 6 be criticized?
As I posted elsewhere, this Richt situation would be no different than Rick Barnes. 16 NCAA tournament seasons in 17 years at Texas. Fired. Tennessee wisely jumped at the opportunity.
The fact you're seriously trying to argue he's somehow not good because of beating "bad" Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Clemson, and South Carolina teams is one of the most ridiculous things ever uttered on this board and only proves my point. How many of those wins came against bad UF, Aubie, EWE-T, Clempscum, and SoCar teams?
Exactly - then those teams are up...he loses against them. The fact you're seriously trying to argue he's somehow not good because of beating "bad" Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Clemson, and South Carolina teams is one of the most ridiculous things ever uttered on this board and only proves my point.
If our coach was building his resume with annual wins over those schools, we'd be building a statue and not discussing potential replacements. Talk about unrealistic expectations!
well guys someone seems to think Richt's UGA teams have been okay: he's had 7 top 10 finishes. maybe you don't think winning 10 or more games 9 times is of any value - and in the SEC - but he has had 7 top 10 teams in the final rankings, the only poll that matters.
when WVU upset UGA, we thought we'd really done something.
perhaps Richt won't turn out to be a possibility, but if he could be, I wouldn't mind to see some players like Matt Stafford, AJ Green, and Nick Chubb. now you'll say next he can't recruit to WVU, but I believe yes he'd still get his share & coach em up.
Have you seen this guy play?

at Ariz 19 rushes for 146
at GB 30 rushes for 159
vs CLE 19 rushes 128 yards 2 TDs
vs SF 20 rushes for 133 yards & a TD
I'd love to watch anything remotely close to that in a Mountaineer uniform. but that's just my opinion.
2-15 against the top 15............2-15 What a coach.I do like your avatar, so there is that. but I don't share the opinion with you that Dana is comparable or better than Mark Richt. if that's what you're suggesting.
I'm sorry that the Sugar Bowl has lost some value to you as well because it was a Richt-coached opponent. It was a great night to be a Mountaineer and the rest of us will look upon it fondly. I'd assume anyway.
Georgia has had 80 players drafted in the NFL since Richt has been their head coach.
I would rate Dana's coaching ability as poor. Or as Dana put it Thursday: failing. Of all things to argue, Dana's clock management abilities would not be something to get excited over.
Since your valuation of Richt's career seems to stem from yesterday's FL game and discredits most if not all of his 141 wins and 9 bowl wins over 15 years, and since you're bringing Dana into the discussion, it may be worth taking a look at what Dana's done for us lately too.
Thursday at TCU was a 30-point defeat, the largest defeat of the season. WV scored a whopping 10 points, the lowest offensive showing of 2015, and Dana made embarrassing national waves with a high five. Before that WV gave up 62 points to Baylor and lost by 24 - a team it held to 27 & beat a year prior. I'd imagine you know how Ok State went, the must-win, critical home game that could've eased some of the bleeding (we had beat them twice before). Before that we lost by 20 to Oklahoma. Dana is 0-4 vs OU. A week later, OU lost to 3-5 Texas, which begs the question if OU is in fact invincible.
Our best win is beating 6-2 Ga South of the Sun Belt Conf. To you that may be equal to beating Tenn, Miss State, Ole Miss, Vandy, etc. FCS Liberty is 4-4. MD is 2-6 and looking for a coach.
Maybe it's possible you weren't similarly impressed with Huggins' resume at the time of his hire either. He'd only won 23 games at K-State & was bounced in the NIT second round. That should've indicated everything.
yeah that's not even close to accurate. Richt has 38 wins over top 25 teams. 17 wins versus top 15. over past 5 years 4 top 9 wins, 10 top 25 wins.
2001
won at 6 Tennessee & at 21 Ga Tech
This was the original phrasing
"Over the past five years, he's 2-14 against top 15 teams. "
Am I right or wrong?
Beamer has 235 wins - why not go after him?
2002

2007

sorry they've disappointed with Nick Chubb going out to season ending knee injury & couldn't beat FL for ya, but they are 5-3 & will make a bowl. we're 3-4.
as you said...what a coach.
