GLEN JEAN, W.Va. — President Donald Trump will become the eighth president to visit the National Boy Scout Jamboree when he arrives at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Fayette County Monday.
Trump is expected to speak at around 6 p.m. before evening’s stadium show. The visit is not open to the public.
U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito will accompany Trump.
“At the Jamboree, the president will have an opportunity to see the future leaders of our country. I look forward to welcoming him to the Mountain State,” Capito said in a prepared statement.
Gov. Jim Justice released the following statement Sunday:
“Having the President of the United States in West Virginia is a tremendous honor. A visit from President Trump will be the cherry on top of this year’s successful Boy Scout Jamboree. A presidential visit will help showcase West Virginia to the world and demonstrates that President Trump hasn’t forgotten about our state. I look forward to welcoming the President and celebrating the mission of the Boy Scouts.”
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was honored at the Jamboree back on Friday when a statue was unveiled in his honor.
“It’s just remarkable and extraordinarily gratifying to come back from time to time and see what’s been happening here at the Summit,” Tillerson said.
There’s a long history of the sitting United States President visiting the National Jamboree but it’s been 12 years since the latest visit. Former President George W. Bush spoke to Scouts a the 2005 Jamboree.
More than 40,000 Scouts, Venturers, leaders, staff and volunteers arrived at the sprawling facility last week for the second National Jamboree at the Summit.
