True or False: being on probation is like being

Urban Legend...please provide a link! You seem to be saying they kicked us out in the 60's but welcomed us back in 97 and cried buckets when we left! Of course we never should have left but that's a different issue!

In 1997, Dave Ridpath walked onto the campus of Marshall University as a sports loving athletic administrator with a career on the rise. Less than five years later, Ridpath’s quest to reform one of the most corrupt athletic departments in college sports, while simultaneously standing up to the behemoth governing body that is the NCAA, had all but destroyed that career.

While serving as assistant athletic director for compliance and student services at Marshall University from 1997 through 2001, Ridpath unearthed violations of several NCAA rules. These violations included overt academic fraud and impermissible, booster-devised employment for members of the Marshall University football team—a team had taken the nation by storm because of its incredible success on the field. Ridpath now chronicles his experiences through this trying time in Tainted Glory: Marshall University, the NCAA, and One Man’s Fight for Justice.

Instead of being hailed as a conquering hero determined to clean up an outlaw program, Ridpath had the tables turned on him. He found himself out of a job when Marshall University and the NCAA determined that the path of least resistance would be to remove him rather than address the issues head-on. With this action, they hoped to avoid damaging the university, the athletic department, and the NCAA overall.

This story is about more than the NCAA or Marshall University. It is about the state of the business of intercollegiate athletics told by someone on the inside who lived it—the good and the bad.

That's David Ridpath's publisher's opinion only! I'm waiting to see proof of your allegation that the MAC kicked MU out for "cheating"!

This was from the player, not the publisher. I guess he's lying, and has no idea of what he's talking about even though he was there. I'm finding more and more. I figured a 'fan' would know all about this.

"It all culminated when the university was suspended indefinitely from the MAC, its punishment for allegedly committing more than 140 recruiting violations. It wasn't uncommon for a recruit or a Marshall player back then to find money in an envelope under his plate after eating a meal, says former Marshall player Nate Ruffin."

I'm not saying violation didn't occur in the 60's, I'm saying no where will you find a statement from the MAC conference as to that being the sole reason we were asked to leave. A Dave Wellman article is not evidence ! If I'm on trial for my life and your're on the Jury please hold out for more proof than that....thanks in advance!

Was Marshall "..the most corrupt program in college sports" as the book touts? Was it an "outlaw" program?

Pruett just carried on the legacy with slightly more stealth. But, not enough.

Yeah, WVU is cheaters. How did we cheat? What did WVU do wrong? Juxtapose that to what Marshall did/does.

Cheating is cheating.....attempting to gain a unfair advantage is just wrong! Glad we don't do it! We've have been rehabilitated and redeemed!
