MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Dec. 19, 2023) The West Virginia University men’s soccer team made history on Tuesday as three Mountaineers were taken in the first round of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft.

Sophomore forward Marcus Caldeira was selected 20th overall by Minnesota United FC, senior forward Yutaro Tsukada was taken at No. 25 by Orlando City SC, and senior goalkeeper Jackson Lee was taken by LAFC with the 28th pick.

The trio are the first three Mountaineers ever taken in the first round of the 29-year history of the MLS College Draft/SuperDraft.

All three players played key roles in West Virginia’s run to its first College Cup with Caldeira and Tsukada leading the team with 12 goals each while Lee played every minute in goal for the Mountaineers, making 66 saves and setting a new program record with 17 wins.

West Virginia was the only school to have three first-round picks this year and the first since Notre Dame and Saint Louis in the 2022 SuperDraft.
