Comments on the Sestito tryout ?? Lord knows the Pens need a horse somewhere on the roster to handle the Zac Rinaldos, Tom Wilsons, Chris Neils, and Fraser McLarens of the world.....and their only tough guy last season was a badly undersized (and as we all know, badly over-penalized) Steve Downie. I figure he signs a contract to play the Steve MacIntyre/George Parros role and only dresses against teams like the Bruins, Cryers and Craps; maybe he plays 35-40 games splitting time with Scuderi (who's I consider their 7th D-man).

Meanwhile, glad to see that Ehrhoff surfaced somewhere; since the Kings are reasonably deep in numbers on defense even without Voynov, he probably won't be asked to play big minutes on what I assume will be their 3rd pairing (and can move up if necessary). As we may have talked about earlier, everything I read indicated he was holding out for a multi-year deal for at least $4 million per; the fact he signed for 1 year @ $1.5 million indicates to me everyone considered him (badly) damaged goods. But he better think about playing at least 70-75 games next season if he has any prayer at that 3 year/$10-12 million deal he's going to want next summer at 34 years old.

Also, what do you think about the Giordano deal ?? Man, the talking heads had been saying he was in line for $8 million USD/season, but ends up settling for under $7 million. Honestly, I haven't watched him play enough to know how good he really is; but some act as though he's as important to Calgary as Subban is to the Habs. If that's the case, the Flames made out pretty good.

V, you know I'm a huge fan of the new layout.....but this thread is a perfect example, along with a long list of other reasons, why you (Rivals) should allow PM's for everyone (and not just premium members).

If Sestito can concentrate on throwing haymakers / the odd bodycheck, instead of running his mouth I'm all for it...he has moderately better skill than the majority of lugheads out there, just wonder what sort of shape his body is in at this point...if he makes it he'd be just the guy I want to see dressed vs the Cryers...
I think the Flames got a bit of a bargain at under 7 ( while I still shake my head a bit at calling 7 bills a bargain). I assume he is being paid in USD like most and if so 7 hits Calgary fairly hard anyway with the dollar so low 75 cents vs the greenback! Truthfully to me they really didn't look so bad with him out of the lineup down the stretch, but I guess letting him walk would have the Flame faithful apoplectic...
Happy Ehrhoff finally latched on somewhere and at that price if he's anywhere close to healthy the Kings got a bargain.

I was actually working in the same building as the Hockey Hall Of Fame this morning, it is pretty cool seeing all the peoples different team gear walking in and out of the place including one young fella in his Penguin jersey and Dad wearing a sPitt golf shirt , I was actually wearing my WVU hat and said 'well you fellas got ONE team right!' And we exchanged a laugh...
Not sure if you've ever been to the newer location for the HOF or not...it is a really nice facility, although last time I was there was about 5 or 6 years ago (Mom and Dad used to take me every year as a young lad , when it was on the old Canadian Exhibition grounds in summer...this spot right downtown is miles better and I hear there is even more to do / exhibits than ever)...there is a #66 jersey prominently displayed at the entrance which I assume rotates to different hockey greats from time to time...

I like this LowFatMilk alter ego better than the other handle...less abrupt , better sense of humor....and chock full of good ideas!

Ryan Wilson posted the following on Eklund's site earlier this week in response to the news about Sestito. If you haven't seen it, tell me what you think......

I gotta' tell you, I'm not altogether sure I disagree with him in the strictest sense; though I still think most teams need someone available on the fringes to keep the remaining cement heads around the League from taking too many runs at your better/less physical players.

I did visit the HOF once back in the late 90's; it was right down in the middle of town in that building with the diagonal front entrance on (I think) Yonge. Not sure if that's the "newer" location to which you refer. Was hoping to find a way to get back down there now that I was working Toronto again. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen now; will talk about that with you some other time.

Meanwhile, was wondering if you happened to catch Boomer Gordon's preseason review of the Penguins on NHL Network Radio yesterday afternoon. I'm sorry I missed it; though among traditional hockey media who (over the past few years) have turned violently against the Penguins, he's got precious little good to say about Sid, GMJR, Mario, or anyone else associated with the franchise anymore. I'd been getting the impression over the summer he thought they were a team which might take a big step backward and miss the playoffs altogether this year.

Even the most jaded Penguins fan has to admit they have questions on defense; but they're light years deeper up front.....and that's before you add Kessel to the mix. If Flower holds up again......and I realize that could be viewed by some as a comparatively big IF......I honestly think this could be a 110 point team (though, I'm not sure I'd bet on it).

Oh, I pay zero attention to anything he has to say (as you have seen). As for his "other handle", I don't pay close enough attention to this Board anymore to know/remember old screen names (well, with one single exception I can think of off the top of my head). But in his case, I just ignore anything he directs at me; that'll piss him off more than anything I could possibly post in response.

For the sake of accuracy I modified your post to correctly address my gender.....

You type that you're ignoring me yet you just dedicated an entire reply to exactly who..?

Thx.

Pens should sign Sesito to a 2-way contract. Stash him in WBS until the Penguins play Flyers, Capitals, etc and then call him up. As an everyday guy, I vote hell no. But for a guy to call up when you know teams are going to thug it out, call him up.

Like you I really can't disagree with him on the whole...if we are talking about the quintessential 'cement head' over the leagues history I could really do without them altogether. The Cryers had their heyday in the seventies and those lugheads could actually play /skate in between cracking skulls...imo it all started with the Gretzky/Semenko combo, which then morphed into McSorley and on we went to the detriment of the league.
If two fellas that can actually play the game , turn around get angry and drop the gloves so be it....the 'enforcers' in today's game are really a nuisance for me, and I think if you have enough bigger skilled players on your roster there is no need for one...
The names that Wilson drops in that article certainly aren't a list of choirboys are they? He's right ...this PTO will likely do nothing whether he makes the team or not...however I'm growing weary of seeing our big guns get pushed around...the ilk of player we actually need (sadly) are the ones that play just over the edge of dirty, Doan, Lucic, Staal...Pronger when he was active, Keith in Chicago...they play dirty (often real dirty) and get away with it...at most a 2-3 game suspension and then back for the season.

And yep we sure are deeper up front! Kessel is a potentially huge add, and Fehr makes up for the loss of Sutter nicely imo...110? If the cards fall where they should and we avoid the injury bug, perhaps!

A 2 way would definitely be the thing to do with him ...and for the very reasons /teams you list...

Logical point about Sestito; he fits every profile of a guy who'd gladly sign a 2-way. The problem, though, is what he delivers to WB/S on the days he isn't in the League defending Letang and Sid. You're likely taking away PT from a younger guy.....though that's not always the case in the AHL, especially with a lacking in young talent team like WB/S.

But I'm not sure he's the kind of guy you can realistic ask to play 13-17 minutes/game anyway; nothing in his history suggests he possesses the discipline to stay out of the box to play that much.
