where will marshla end up now?.....return to mac?.....sun belt?......join uconn as independent and play each other 10 times?
Bro, I think we've touched on this issue over years. I have always thought that we never should have left the MAC in the first place! When we bolted the MAC for C-USA it was clear that Louisville, UC and TCU were looking to leave and that made that conference no more appealing than the MAC,IMHO! But I am in the minority of MU fans on this issue, I think we just have to put the best product we can on the field and we'll play whoever lines up in front of us.where will marshla end up now?.....return to mac?.....sun belt?......join uconn as independent and play each other 10 times?
C-USA is like sitting on a deck chair on the Titanic!Sun Belt would be a good option. If WKU and MTSU head to the MAC as speculated, C-USA would be toast.
were they asked to leave?......I remember attending a marshla ohio u basketball game in athens when Russell Lee played for the herd...at halftime when the announcer said "scores around the mac" the marshla fans booed so loud you couldn't hear the PA announcerBro, I think we've touched on this issue over years. No, the MAC wanted us to stay badly! We were the MAC daddy and the darlings of ESPN with Pennington and Leftwich but we screwed that up by leaving for C-USA which made no sense especially considering our natural rivals would have been Louisville and UC but they were leaving.were they asked to leave?......I remember attending a marshla ohio u basketball game in athens when Russell Lee played for the herd...at halftime when the announcer said "scores around the mac" the marshla fans booed so loud you couldn't hear the PA announcer
I attended hundreds of games at the Convocation Center, and even played there a couple of times as a high schooler, as our playoffs (districts and/or regionals) were held there. I haven't seen a game there since I witnessed the Bobcats thump the Old Fold & Blew back in 1998. In addition, I attended the Bobcats' next win over WVU, which was in 1999, this time at the Charleston Civic Center. That was the season when asbestos was being removed from the Coliseum, so WVU played its home games in Charleston, and, maybe, Wheeling, as well. O.U. beat WVU again in Athens in 2000, which is the last time the two schools played against each other, but I wasn't in attendance for that one, unfortunately.were they asked to leave?......I remember attending a marshla ohio u basketball game in athens when Russell Lee played for the herd...at halftime when the announcer said "scores around the mac" the marshla fans booed so loud you couldn't hear the PA announcer

Yes, they kicked us out over the Perry Moss shenanigans, I want to say mid 60's.Sled and Tony are posting about two different eras, I think. If I'm not mistaken, Marshall was a member of the MAC twice. According to the "old heads" with whom I attended games as a teenager at Peden Stadium during the 1980s, Marshall was kicked out of the MAC the first time that the Herd was a member, and Ohio University was one of the MAC members that was responsible for giving the Herd the boot. Assuming that this information is correct, Sled is right about Marshall being kicked out of the MAC. Tony is referring to the second time that Marshall was an MAC member, and he's correct that it was Marshall's decision to leave the second time.
I remember may a trip to the Convo for MU-OU hoop struggles. It seems for the last 60 years, home team usually prevails.I attended hundreds of games at the Convocation Center, and even played there a couple of times as a high schooler, as our playoffs (districts and/or regionals) were held there. If you want to reminisce about MU/OU, did anybody attend a game at the Grover Center, across the street from the Convo?I remember may a trip to the Convo for MU-OU hoop struggles. It seems for the last 60 years, home team usually prevails.
Ha ha, you must be really old. I played hoops at Grover Center hundreds of times, but was not around when O.U. played a game here, so that must have been a very long time ago (in the 60's, maybe?). When I was a kid, high schooler, and college student, Grover Center had multiple basketball courts, where we played pick-up games, tournaments, and 3 on 3 intramural games. The surface of the courts was rubbery, for lack of a more specific term. You could bounce coins off of it.If you want to reminisce about MU/OU, did anybody attend a game at the Grover Center, across the street from the Convo?
It was 1965 or 1966. The surface of the court may have been that rubbery crap. I wasn't close enough to tell. MU had that in the HC at one time also. Must have been the "AstroTurf" of basketball courts back in the day.Ha ha, you must be really old. I want to say that stuff cracked and we had to replace the floor after only a years use...Henderson Center never really lived up to expectations as a structure. It was 1965 or 1966. Do they still have the Halloween Block Party at OU? It was incredible!I doubt that the surface of Grover Center was rubber-based when college games were being played there. My memory is that it was the new surface installed after Grover Center had become a multi-court recreation center.
I would assume so, but don't know. I had a close relative who was a Vice President and Dean of Students, so I never went to the Halloween Party, as I didn't want to appear on the front page of the Athens Messenger. However, I did wake up one morning after the Halloween Party in a dorm room, surrounded by four co-eds dressed as French Maids. My roommate, who was an O.U. basketball player, somehow convinced these lovely ladies to follow him home. LOLDo they still have the Halloween Block Party at OU? It was incredible!
