wvu fans have been completely reduced to nothing, barely hanging on to their last line of defense "yes, we suck, yes we have reached the football equivalent of the Peter Principle, yes we are destined to spend our remaining days as homecoming fodder for our conference superiors, but we are better than a school with one third our budget."

You ever see those subdivisions where a developer buys buys a big farm, but part of the deal is the farmer gets to keep his house and a acre? You end up with this beautiful development of high price homes, but right there sitting at the entrance is that old beat up farmhouse. Now that farmer has a bunch of money from selling the farm, but he's just a hick so he stays in his old house, but whenever someone asks him where he lives he tells them he's in that new fancy subdivision. All the folks in the development just laugh at him. Sure, he's got some money, but he's just low class and really doesn't deserve to be next to their new McMansions.

Sorry guys, but you're the farmer. You had something somebody needed, they gave you some money, but now you're just the hick outsider that doesn't belong. I know it must be frustrating, but everyone is laughing at you.

If they try to deny this, just check out the MMB. It's chock full of obsessed Ears who say, " yeah well we're still better than Marshall!" Because, deep inside, that's all most of them care about. They won't argue they're no better than Kansas or Iowa State. They know better.

Marshall is like a guy who tells everyone his fake ass chain is real bling that he got from living thug life when everyone knows him as the broke ass loser who works the counter of McDonald's.

This is the kind of weak smack i would expect from the fan of a team that is on welfare and rewards the state by beating up nobodies.

Interesting but flawed analogy. That old farmer is normally the scion of a family who settled the region. His family has been there for generations. He leases and sells land and rights to corporations and individuals who pay him well for the privilege to use his property.

From time to time he might sell some of the land to developers who are normally related to him by blood or marriage. They build a few oversized hoopty houses for the heavily in debt. He keeps the old farm up for hunting leases and to tick off the new neighbors. The new neighbors aren't smart enough to know the old fella's granddaddy, a lawyer by avocation, sold the mineral rights under that newly developed section of the farm decades ago. When they do find out, they can't do squat because the farmers nephew is the county judge and his first cousin the local federal judge.

The farmers kids and grandkids go off to private universities from the development money, while he lives on the interest from generations of investments. The farmer howls as he drives back to the old home place in his beat up old truck, seeing Marshall flags in the driveways of the development on the gas storage land he used to own.

At least that's the way it works down by my place outside of Hurricane. We've been plucking Marshall educated fools since they ran the interstate up this way. Thanks for the money.

BTW, The Peter Principle? Have you read a book since the early 70's? You better be careful quoting that one around Marshall, there's a fat kid down there who will beat you up. He's skeert of your kind.

If you believe what you are typing, I have a bridge for sale that I think you'll love.

That's the way the world works everywhere, my friend. You're just not aware of it.

It's all about who you are and who you know. Family connections and access to political power are the keys, money means little, it's just a means to an end. You can always get money from people who want access to what you have, or who you know.

I did like the old man analogy, but none worth their salt would claim to live in a subdivison. They'd tell you what road or creek and let you figure it out. They generally don't want anything to do with the folks that live in those places, they regard them more as an exhibition in a weird human zoo. You should really think about the social dynamics of exurban regions before using such an example as it's a poor one.

Both the political and social power in those regions lie with the rural inhabitants. They own the land, hold the offices, provide the main tax base, and most importantly, are the long term regular voters. People in subdivisions are in and out in an average of five years, they don't count as far as the local powers that be are concerned. They're simply an extra source of revenue and an annoyance. Again they're regarded by local pols as an odd exhibition in human zoo.

If you want to play, at least have a game. It's sad when I have to educate the opposition to get a decent laugh. And remember, quoting forty year old harebrained pop psychology books will get you burned like houses in Huntington.

Just like how WVU receives their welfare check from the Big XII to be a field filler. What is WVU Big XII record for the check again?? Thank God Women's Soccer can carry the entire Athletic department

WVU receives a paycheck. Marshall receives a welfare check. I can understand someone like you not knowing the difference...

A paycheck to show up to fill the field, I guess that must be life. Nah its a welfare check because 5 years ago, nobody wanted you.

Like I said. I don't blame someone like you for not knowing the difference between a paycheck and a welfare check...

See I work and come from a family of hard working professionals.

But I am wondering what work does WVU do other then show up??

That's bullshit Fever. Dolemite is only saying this because you're black.

He's a racist piece of shit!

AGAIN...mooU fans, name one Big 12 team that takes the MOUNTAINEERS lightly?

So now it matters who takes you lightly?? Wow how the mighty have truly fallen.

Pull the cord and excuses fall for real

I really love having you guys here ... I read stuff like this and it makes feel very fortunate.

5 years ago we were in a BCS conference and setting records against Clemson in route to our 3rd BCS victory. We were certainly wanted by the Big East. And when the Big XII expanded we got an invitation, so we were wanted then as well.

We've never had anything happen as shameful as getting kicked out of a woeful conference ... <ahem> ... and we've never had to beg for inclusion in anything.

How exactly is it welfare to be in a conference you were invited to be in and receive funds for being in it? What welfare are we receiving for a self-sustaining athletic program? At a time when budgets are being cut in WV for things like education, Marshall continues to take $7M in taxpayer money.

You guys are funny ... it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Thanks for answering the question! You fellas make me laugh...poor obsessed mooU fans living on the WVU board!

So getting a courtesy invite to be a field filler when Louisville was invited first must be something to celebrate

Mike, over my career I have financed hundreds of subdivision developments in WV, OH, KY, IN, MD, PA, and TN. Even have done a few in FL.

We all have areas of expertise, and I'll just say your thoughts on the subject are clouded by your exposure being limited to a micro level, both geographically and by developer competency.

Ahhhh..... the little feller got his feelings hurt by my corrective lecture. Now he's posting under two handles.

This is still dull, but our little school bus rider is trying harder. The next thing he'll be claiming is he was the first person to issue a loan for a timeshare on the Moon.

I've never had any alias but this one, but if you need to tell yourself that I do to feel better, that's okay. If it's any consolation, I have financed several nice projects in Morgantown to try and help make the community better.

Ah-ha! That guy with the Four Horsemen comic book store beat you on a deal, didn't he? That's a sorry reason to hold a grudge against one of your fellow geeks.

Whupped again.

Man, that was just a disappointing post from you. I had higher hopes for you, this board doesn't need more than one dole.
