copied and pasted from facebook - " Hello Mountaineers. My name is Jay Fagan. My wife and I are graduates of Texas Tech University. We live in Bowie, MD. Last Saturday, we drove over to Morgantown to attend the TTU/WVU football game. First question: Is every point in Morgantown uphill (both ways)? We West Texas flatlanders got a real workout there. At the stadium, we found ourselves surrounded by a sea of blue and gold (a great color combination for this retired Naval officer). We were wearing our red and black Tech hats, shirts, etc. We thought "Oh boy, this is going to be uncomfortable". But my purpose in writing is to tell you how impressed we are by the WVU fans. No heckling, no snide remarks. In fact, we had pleasant conversations with a group of coeds behind us and a group of alums in front of us. They even took the time to explain some of the traditions of Mountaineer week. As for the game . . . I know there was limited space on the team plane, so I think you would have been more impressed if Tech had brought the band and left the defense at home. But you guys just beat us from the get go. Congratulations. Having lost the game, we thought the long walk out of the stadium and back to our car would involve some good natured razzing. But here is where we were even more impressed. As we literally climbed back up out of the stadium, WVU fans reached out to shake our hands. That was nice, but even better was what they were all saying. No rubbing the victory in our face. They said "Thank you for coming to Morgantown. Have a safe trip home". Wow. One of our group is an Ohio State grad. He assured me that is not the usual greeting after a OSU/Michigan game. We were all taken by pleasant surprise. I know this has bee3n an exceptionally long post. Thanks for sticking with it. I just figured this was the best forum to share my favorable impressions of WVU. You can take pride in your fans. Thanks again. My wife and I will make a point of thanking you for coming to Lubbock when we beat you next year."

So much for the old rumors about how badly we treat fans of visiting teams.........

It is all a lie. No one will believe that propaganda.

Everyone knows WVU fans all and as a mob sacrifice virgins to our pagan gods and drink the blood of visiting fans after they've been tortured and killed.

I have been to Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas State, and TCU since we joined the Big 12. The treatment was equally fine from that fan base. Glad to see our fans acting like adults rather than.......

'Old rumors' ?

WVU fans have a long history of treating visiting fans poorly....that's just a fact. If it wasn't true then AD's and school presidents publicly requesting better behavior wouldn't had been needed (after we joined our new conference).

That doesn't diminish that we have seemingly turned the corner in the hospitality department...but then again, when was the last heated conference game we've played ? Don't think for a second that if PITT, VT, or even Miami came calling that we wouldn't return to our old ways.

While I prefer our fans to be more polite and respectful...I can't completely embrace it as a truth until we're a great team playing against a good team we have 'history' against. By definition....that'll take time (if we're talking about a conference game).

The WVU fanbase has such an inferiority complex that it gropes for acceptance. I thought you all were better than that, but I see you fall under that category also.....

It's just the fact 99.9 percent of our fanbase understands college football and respect the teams in the Big12.

I'm nice to any visiting fan except Pitt fans and even then I usually give them a good game afterwards.

I have friends who are both Texas Tech grads and Texas grads who both have attended WVU games with me in the past. Both were impressed with WVU and its fans.

Those "rumors" are mostly Marshall fans who are jealous of what WVU has and Morgantown. Sprinkle in a few Pitt and VT fans who more than likely were the instigators.

Great Thread!
