The rules are the rules. And, his err was NOT to consult with his medical staff before purchasing and taking a supplement that contained an additive banned by the NCAA.
I would surmise that there are many who walk into GNC and purchase similar supplements to enhance performance and/or address other aspects of health, working-out etc.
That aside, Grier was not suspended for taking a mind-enhancing drug. And, hopefully a lesson learned and "heads-up" to college athletes who need to use the resources provided to them when making such decisions.
For those interested, Grier and his Coach both spoke to the media when the suspension was announced.
