as much an error in judgment as anything.

The rules are the rules. And, his err was NOT to consult with his medical staff before purchasing and taking a supplement that contained an additive banned by the NCAA.

I would surmise that there are many who walk into GNC and purchase similar supplements to enhance performance and/or address other aspects of health, working-out etc.

That aside, Grier was not suspended for taking a mind-enhancing drug. And, hopefully a lesson learned and "heads-up" to college athletes who need to use the resources provided to them when making such decisions.

For those interested, Grier and his Coach both spoke to the media when the suspension was announced.

Much ado about nothing IMO.

The list of banned substances is a very long one indeed. It would be easy for a student athlete to accidentally and unknowingly ingest a supplement that has a banned ingredient.

Only thing i would say to Grier "Welcome to West Virginia University"

I read a comment from an insider from another school. He said every athlete gets a yearly lecture about never taking any sort of supplement without clearing it through the medical staff. For exactly this reason.
