A couple of the bidders had asked for clarifications or substitutions with some of their proprietary products. It looks like WVU has very specific ideas for what it wants with it's revamped field and drainage system, because it rejected the substitutions. Hence, the date was pushed back two weeks. This project won't start until December/January anyway.

As I've mentioned before here, it's not just about flattening the field on a whim and putting down a new rug. Like the concourses, which have had well documented and progressively dysfunctional geological issues over the years, it looks like they are going to go in and geotechnically engineer and treat the soil underneath the turf and asphault to stabilize it, remove the old tile drainage system and put a new, modern drainage and shock system in. To be clear, the new field won't be perfectly flat either - it just won't be Camelback Mountain.

They specifically request a "Brock underlayment system" or equivalent. FieldTurf had asked to substitute their VersaTile system, but was rebuffed. I'll post a link to the Brock Powerbase if you want to check it out. I thought it was interesting that this type of underlayment uses a lot less stone(read: Greer), requires less heavy truck hauls locally, doesn't need as much excavation and shortens install times if you believe their claims and studies. In addition to helping with concussion and injury prevention, which I'm sure is no coincidence given the current climate, it's also supposedly more stable than an exclusively stone base during heavy use in various weather conditions. Specifically, the freeze-thaw cycle if I'm reading it correctly.

Anyhoo,if you're interested, knock yourself out. It's worth mentioning that Brock isn't necessarily the only option, but they obviously specified them for a reason, I'm sure.
