It is important for recruits to know that the head coach has a long term contract, and not giving him one IMO would severely hurt recruiting.

Holgorsen has WVU again in another bowl game against a quality opponent with a chance to win 8 games this season. The Big 12 is arguably the 2nd or 3rd best conference in the country, and every conference game (except for maybe Kansas) is a quality win. I think that WVU will be even better next year with a lot of players returning at the skill positions and a much better conference schedule. A ten game winning season is definitely a possibility, and there might even be a slim chance at going to the Sugar Bowl.

Hopefully Lyons isn't another Steve Pederson. He needs to show leadership and act promptly or WVU will fall behind other schools.

Trolls and LIFs know nothing of Feleipe Franks. He was committed to LSU. Now he is committed to UF after those lets fire Les Miles shenanigans. I just hope our potential recruits don't read these message boards. If you care about WVU football and want it to succeed, you would double down on Dana and post supportive attitudes towards our coaching staff and players. Tis the season to wish RR would return and lead WVU to the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.

We have a recruit coming up Tuesday and don't think he isn't thinking about the coaching staffs longevity. I spend my career negotiating contracts and I sure hope Mr Lyons is not playing with fire. Give Coach H his extension this weekend and get the assistant coaches happy. This group of coaches has done a wonderful job in recruiting. Let's reward them. The wins will come. Having played baseball at WV having a Coach who has a great relationship with his team is invaluable. This team could have fallen apart after October and Dana held them together. Let's quit being arm chair coaches and let the coaches do their job. Remember recruits read these posts and I hope they read mine to see my support.

Maybe WVU's coaching staff is armed with the knowledge that Holgorsen's contract extension is forthcoming (after the bowl) and they can use that privileged information in recruiting. Pederson practically single-handedly destroyed Pitt's football program with his handling of the coaching staff. I am not sure if Pitt's new Athletic Director can ever restore them to a respectable program and bring back the fan base, but he is making the right moves and just made another one this week by not handcuffing Narduzzi.

I think this thread is overly generous to Dana, just as the trolls and otherwise handicapped have been overly harsh. The truth, as usual, is somewhere in between.

I would think that a victory over a 6-6 Arizona State team is not beyond reasonable expectations. That would mean 8-5. Not great, but worth another season of Dana.

No one wants WVU to succeed more than me. It's my alma mater. I've been in Mountaineer Field for every game for decades. I support the MAC well in excess of the minimum requirements, and happy to do it, because my alma mater made it possible for me to have a good life, happy career and travel to 53 countries and 43 states. I am grateful to WVU. And to my West Virginia Monongah coal mining town childhood, which was extremely beneficial to me.

That's now 15-21 in league play over the last four seasons. 6/15 BXII wins have come versus Kansas and I-State. Many of the 21 losses have been embarrassing blowout results. Two of those losses came at the hands of Kansas and I-State.

Oliver Luck handcuffed WVU's position with Dana's deal. He guaranteed Dana nearly $17M through 2017 regardless of anything & the only out is if Dana leaves and pays WVU $2M. There is no leeway or other interpretation of the contract. Moving forward, there are very few coaches in the profession who operate with 2-year contracts. The season went precisely as I projected in the summer and I'm not surprised they've gotten themselves in this predicament.

William Hirsch: Continuity is key for the program. Holgorsen and crew have been recruiting some great players to set up the program for future success in the Big 12. I understand fans have been frustrated with not winning more than seven games a season but they seem to forget this is Big 12 Football. These programs are historically some of the best in college football. No game is an easy game and that's the price you have to pay to be the best. Would they rather go back to what is now the AAC and beat up on teams just to get 10 wins a season but be completely inexperienced when playing superior competition? Another thing is, if Lyons had fired Holgorsen, who could come in and replace him and recruit better and set up success like he has in Big 12 football? We aren't going to land a big name coach like other prosperous programs. Let's be honest with ourselves here, this is WVU, not Alabama. It's great that fans want the program to be an Alabama and demand the program be as good as Alabama but there are many people around the country that don't even know West Virginia is a state! If you can't be realistic in the fact WVU isn't going to compete with the likes of the Alabama's in college football, then maybe college football isn't for you.

EVERY game is on Huggins. If WVU wins, hoorays for Huggins. If WVU loses, disappointment in Huggins. It's his job to recruit the players and teach them, motivate them, bully them into winning. I'd say, since he's No. 4 among active coaches in victories he's doing a pretty good job of it.. Hell, Kentucky and no one is jumping all over its coach. Basketball season is only a warmup for March Madness anyway. You make the field, win 6 in a row and you're national champ. It's that simple.
