...I have relatives in Texas who are Longhorn fans. Something that cannot be overlooked concerning the expansion situation and the Big XII is that my relatives see as a near-panic on the part of Longhorn fans as to what they see as Texas A&M passing Texas in relevance as a result of Texas A&M going into the SEC. They feel, correctly or incorrectly, that the SEC has put the A&M program on steroids and that the situation must be fixed...........and soon. Longhorn fans I talked to when visiting Texas have a high opinion of WVU but see overall the conference "holding back Texas". They lament not going to the Pac 10 and even talk about independent status "if we can secure a promise from Oklahoma that they willl play us every year". The jealousy factor over the Aggies is something that WVU will need to monitor. I cannot see adding two non P5 teams fixing that problem. I realize that Texas fans are like Notre Dame fans in that they have an over-inflated sense of their own value. But to deny that Texas ( and to a lesser degree Oklahoma) is the engiene that pulls this conference and to say that one leaving would not be catastrophic would be naive....
