His 10-year contract has expired, and Justice is claiming Watson is just too expensive......along with the fact TW is apparently unable to spend the time required to property fill the role as The G's Pro Emeritus. I do hope that's the case, because I'll feel very bad if follow-up reports are that the split was not amicable (and agreed upon by both parties).
This does, as a result, beg the question as to who become Watson's replacement. My first thoughts were the obvious ones...... Jack Nicklaus or Gary Player. But it's hard to imagine, at their ages, either would be all that anxious to become a more-or-less full time spokesman/representative for The G in light of their other interests. Plus, neither of them needs (or probably wants) the gig......probably the case even when Watson signed-on 10 years ago.
So,with these two presumably well beyond the discussion, I'm thinking Justice will approach current Seniors like Freddie Couples, Bernhard Langer, and Hale Irwin. However, my betting money at this point would probably focus on Davis Love (though his 2016 Ryder Cup responsibilities could be a deal-breaker) or Kenny Perry.
My gut feel is that Perry probably represents a reasonably-solid combination of notoriety, availability, and reasonable cost.....though Love's basic profile is probably more desirable coming-off a high-profile veteran like Watson.
