...or more specifically the bidding process.

Instead of schools advertising what they could offer to the Big 12 maybe the conference should consider a unique process where schools make private offers about the percentage of income they're willing to forfeit for any given number of years instead of the league simply including the condition in an outgoing offer. Both (or more) new schools wouldn't be required to be given the same terms. Plus schools show what they can give the Big 12 outside of their athletic program and campus.

Instead of Fed Ex, for example, making vague promises to back Memphis get a detailed commitment. Require (instead of simply getting promises) schools to invest in certain areas of athletics AND only release certain money to the new schools when it has already been designated.

Probation period anybody ? Certain requirements must be met in certain timeframes before a new school becomes a full member. To boot a school would take a majority vote (vs. a major majority) until that school becomes a full member protected by all league rules.

The list could, and maybe should, easily go on....

------------

Ok, I know some of those things do happen (in a lessor manner) and that we don't want to handicap (is that a politically correct way to use that term?) a new member.... ...but the Big 12 is in a unique situation. They may be the last P5 conference to expand (outside the P5) for a very long time and schools are desperate. Time for politicians and businesses in those areas to pony-up and for the Big 12 to take advantage.

Yep... ....abuse the situation to help the Big 12.

I like this idea.
